New Million Dollar Bugatti Marque At Left Lane News

Veyron Targa.jpg

Left Lane News.com reports of the impending launch of a pricey "set of wheels". 'Bugatti will launch a new $1.9 million version of its Veyron supercar in 2008, according to a published report. The so-called Veyron Targa will receive a glass roof engineered by Webasto — the same German firm responsible for the folding roof on the Volkswagen Eos, according to Edmunds. Unlike the Porsche 911 Targa — which has a glass roof that retracts and is stowed onboard — the Veyron's roof panel will have to be removed by hand and kept in the garage.'

Battery Brain Spikes Car Battery Charge

Battery Brain.jpg

I am not so sure how the manufacturers of the jumper cable would view the Battery Brain but there is no the denying the increase of productivity this device is likely to promote since with all things being equal, there should be no reason in the future for your vehicle not to start as a result of a low battery charge. 'The Battery Brain "uses unique electronic technology to ensure the battery always maintains enough power to start the engine." Which is good for your battery - jumpstarts are hard on the poor little thing - and good for you in that you can be sure your car will start in the morning. Battery Brain is an automotive accessory product that easily installs onto the battery of a regular or custom car, truck, SUV, van, or RV. It uses unique electronic technology to ensure the battery always maintains enough power to start the engine.'

CNET.com: 2007 GMC Yukon SLT 2WD (5.3L 8cyl 4A)

2007 GMC Yukon SLT 2WD.jpg

There can be no denying the rising oil price has thrown up some challenges to operators of vehicles but I get a sense that the owners of the gas-guzzling SUVs derive a feeling of security which overrides all other considerations. 'The 2007 GMC Yukon SLT is a comfortable boat-on-wheels. As a two-wheel-drive vehicle, the standard Yukon is of questionable value as an SUV: There are few cars that are less sporty, and its size and ungainly handling are far from utilitarian. Nevertheless, with loads of interior space for five passengers, and a generous cargo area, the Yukon makes good use of its capacious dimensions. Drivers and passengers have plenty of standard and optional onboard tech to inform and entertain them:

Jensen VM9511TS In-Car Media Receiver

Jensen VM9511TS.jpg

If you you have a preference for excellent in-car sound and video you might not be too satisfied with the factory-installed system of your vehicle. The Jensen VM9511TS (In-dash DVD player with 7" video screen Includes iPod® adapter, TV tuner & antenna, front and rear remote controls) would be an excellent replacement but the absence of USB-compatibility is unacceptable in such a device at this time. 'The Jensen VM9511TS does about everything an in-car media receiver could possibly do. From its ability to play nearly every modern audio-format (including MP3, WMA, XM Satellite, and AM/FM radio and SD-card files), to its crisp DVD playback via a 7-inch widescreen monitor, to its TV reception and ability to act as a giant iPod, this is one heady head unit. Like the Jensen VM9510TS, its older sibling, the VM9511TS has two display interfaces. One is a blue, backlit dot-matrix LCD display, which is visible only when the unit is in stowed-away mode. The other is a pop-up TFT touch-screen that emerges from its single-DIN body with the whirr of a motor.'

CNET: 2006 Acura TSX Sedan Review

2006 Acura TSX.jpg

Kevin Massy reviews the 2006 Acura TSX which is an entry-level luxury sport sedan that is positioned and priced between Acura's RSX sport coupe and the more upscale TL luxury sedan. ' When we reviewed the 2005 Acura TSX last year, we had few complaints. The car's interior was up to the high standard of more upscale Acura models--with voice-activated navigation, heated leather seats, and an LCD touch-screen interface for most onboard controls--and Honda's 2.4-liter, 200-horsepower i-VTEC engine provided the luxury sport sedan with enough zip to make the ride interesting. Aside from a few goofy design elements, the only major faults we found with were the car's limited standard stereo capabilities and sound quality, as well as its lack of Bluetooth integration.'

CNET: Garmin Quest 2 GPS Navigator Review

Garmin Quest 2 GPS Navigator.jpg

The Garmin Quest 2 GPS Navigator comes pre-loaded with City Select North America NT, which features full coverage of the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico—including nearly six million points of interest like gas stations, ATMs, hotels, restaurants, and attractions. ' A number of portable navigation systems, such as the Magellan RoadMate 800, claim they can be used in the car and on foot, but while they may be compact enough, their odd shapes don't make them ideal walking buddies. The Garmin Quest 2, however, is a different story. Its PDA-like form factor makes it a perfect travel companion, whether you're behind the wheel or hoofing it. Maps are now preloaded on the device, one of several nice upgrades over its predecessor. Of course, there are some trade-offs for its diminutive size. The display is rather small and isn't a touch screen. Voice-guided directions are only available when the unit is used with the included vehicle mount. And, it's a bit pricey at $750. Still, thanks to its portability and accurate directions, the Garmin Quest 2 is a solid choice if you're looking for a versatile GPS device.'

The Car Connection.com: 2007 Nissan Quest Review

2007 Nissan Quest.jpg

Bengt Halvorson writing over at The Car Connection reviews the 2007 Nissan Quest minivan and positions the vehicle at the top with the more popular marquees in its league. 'Automotive design, just like the latest fashion, can be a fickle affair. Automakers have a fine design line to straddle with new products, between bold and bland. Keep too conservative, and buyers may dismiss a new vehicle, however great, as too boring; but go a little too outside the norm, and it sure will be the talk of the town but it might not be the success it was hoped to be. The latter is the story behind the current-generation Quest minivan. When it was being planned, market research had shown that buyers were looking for a minivan with edgier styling - inside and out - and Nissan rose to the occasion with a design that broke away from the cookie-cutter ideal of what a minivan should be.'

CNET Review: 2006 Honda Accord Hybrid

2006 Honda Accord Hybrid.jpg

Kevin Massy reviews the2006 Honda Accord Hybrid for CNET's Car Tech resource and it seems the marquee may have a couple issues with the on-board stereo and fuel consumption to address in future models. 'The 2006 Honda Accord Hybrid rewrites the hybrid-car playbook in more ways than one. A strapping 3.0-liter V-6 egged on by an electric motor puts out 253 horsepower, making the Hybrid more powerful than its V-6, gas-only 2006 Honda Accord EX stablemate. However, before we start popping the organic champagne, the financial and environmental cost of this enhanced performance requires closer inspection: In our road test, the Hybrid did significantly worse than the gas-only model when it came to gas mileage.

Sony Portable Satellite Navigation System NV-U70

Sony Portable Satellite Navigation System.jpg

CNET reviews Sony's first entry into the portable in-car navigation market 'The Sony NV-U70's design and form factor are perhaps its greatest assets. At 4.1 by 3.5 by 1.8 inches and 11 ounces, the device is light, compact, and ultraportable, so you can easily move it from car to car. As a bonus, Sony provides you with a nice soft pouch so that you can carry the device around and protect it from sustaining any major dings. And believe us, one glance at this sharp device and you'll want to do all you can to keep it looking that way. As with most Sony products, the NV-U70 sports an attractive design that's highlighted by a polished silver and charcoal-gray casing, minimal controls, and a 3.5-inch touch screen; it reminded us of a mini TV.

Mashfique H. Chowdhury posts an informative review of the 2006 Audi A4 1.8T Sedan on DriveArabia.com. 'Audi automobiles always manage to make a good first impression. The styling is clean and elegant, and the exterior build quality is impeccable. Inside, the dashboard and centre console design is very simple, but still gives us a warm fuzzy feeling. Most of the surface materials are soft to the touch, and all the gauges and digital displays are readable, even though they are blood-red in colour. Most basic luxury amenities are standard, including a decent stereo with glovebox-mounted CD changer, power windows, electric mirrors and good automatic air-conditioning. Do you have $1.275 Million to spare? If you do, you could probaly qualify to own the beauty above and be the envy of your friends and the lure of your opposite gender. Inside Line reports on the upcoming launch of "the new MC12 Corsa, which the Fiat affiliate describes as a build-to-order, track-only model based on its MC12 GTI racecar". 'Available starting this fall, Maserati will build only 12 cars in total, each with a price tag of a million Euros ($1,275,000), plus tax. The sticker rivals that of the Bugatti Veyron, but there's one twist: Maserati has no plans to homologate the MC12 Corsa for road use or motorsports. Instead, the automaker says the car is aimed at a select number of clients "who will enjoy the possibility to test their driving capability in the most exclusive gentlemen drivers' environment" — that is, for exclusive use during private track sessions or at Maserati exhibitions. 2007 Lexus ES350: Riding In The Lap Of "Affordable" Luxury

2007 Lexus ES350.jpg

Conor Twomey takes the 2007 Lexus ES350 through its paces in this review for the Car Connection and gives an overall favorable assessment to Toyota's "entry-level luxury car ". 'Lexus says the 2007 model has been styled using their new L-Finesse design philosophy but it still looks more Toyota than Lexus to my eyes. In profile the ES350 is rather conservative and featureless, which wouldn't be so bad if they hadn't given it such aggressive head lamps, and that scowling expression. The proportions aren't terribly well resolved either, a trait accentuated by the busy design of its small-looking 17-inch wheels, but at least the ES's rear end is appealing and tastefully in keeping with the car's purpose in life.'

Coffee On The Go! Drink And Drive?

The WMF espresso machine.jpg

Tech Digest highlights the The WMF espresso machine which is apparently engineered to fit into the car and deliver your latte right there in the middle of the downtown traffic. I am not altogether sure you would not be infringing some traffic regulation while sipping away but for sure you would not want to arrive for your driving test with this device ready to use. Of course, when you have stopped your engine and parked the vehicle, I can see just how the coffee machine would come in handy. 'The WMF espresso machine features in Audi's latest concept car (the Roadjet) and sits neatly in the central arm rest between the passenger. WMF claim their machine is "fully functional" and "provides fresh coffee at the touch of a button". Now presuming you'll have to top this up before you set off on a journey, I would be very worried about a spillage occurring during a traffic slowdown.'

The Car Connection.com: Previews of 2006 Hybrid Marques

2006 Hybrid Buyers’ Guide.jpg

Paul A.Eisenstein explains the reasoning behind the development of the "Hybrid vehicle" and previews the features of some of the 2006 automobiles. 'The concept behind the hybrid is simple: recapture energy normally wasted during braking and coasting and store it in a modest-sized battery. When the hybrid needs a burst of power, that energy can be used to run an electric motor paired up with the vehicle's internal combustion engine. Some hybrids, such as the Toyota Prius, can also operate in electric-only mode, though only at slow speeds and for relatively short distances. Then there are so-called "mybrids," or "mild hybrids," such as the hybrid version of Chevrolet's big Silverado. Its battery stores only a minimal amount of energy and doesn't provide much of a boost in range, but the pickup does have the ability to serve as a mobile, 110-volt generator for a work or campsite.'

Australian IT News: GPS Navigation For Drivers Explained

Ian Grayson has penned an informative article on the use of 'consumer' GPS [Global Positioning System] navigation devices on Australian IT News.com.au. 'Global Positioning System technology, originally designed for the US military, is coming to the aid of directionally challenged people everywhere. No longer the exclusive domain of well-heeled gadget lovers, GPS devices are appearing in pockets and on car dashboards around the country. GPS relies on a constellation of 24 satellites orbiting Earth constantly. The orbits have been designed so that at any given time, at least four of the satellites are visible from almost any point on the globe. GPS receivers listen for these satellites that continuously transmit accurate time information.'

TomTom GO 510 Automotive GPS Traffic Navigation System

TomTom GO 510.gif

Driving along large stretches of highway and unfamiliar territory without any form of navigational aide can be pretty challenging but with the "affordable" GPS devices such as the TomTom GO 510 you can have access to the required map of any location. 'Make no mistake, the TomTom GO 510 is not to be overshadowed by its full-featured brother, the TomTom GO 910. The plug-and-play TomTom GO 510's merits include a new design with a larger 4-inch touch screen; an automatic light sensor; integrated Bluetooth for hands-free calling; and the inclusion of the company's new TomTom Home software, which lets you manage, download, and store additional content from your computer. The GO 510 also supports TomTom Plus services so that you can get real-time traffic and weather information, though this requires an additional subscription fee. The TomTom GO 510 is a good fit for those drivers who don't need all the sophisticated features of the GO 910 but could still use help in the navigation department; all the detailed maps of the United States and Canada come pre-installed on a 1GB SD card rather than on its hard drive. The TomTom GO 510 will be available in mid-April for around $699'

Paul A. Eisenstein test drove the new 2007 Cadillac Escalade and concluded, "the Escalade is arguably the best full-size domestic ute on the market". 'Visually, it finally fits into the new look of Cadillac. Sure, the new Escalade shares its platform, known internally as the GMT900, with the likes of the Denali and Chevrolet Tahoe, but the styling is distinctly Caddy. Gone is the kludgy cladding. There's plenty of chrome, but it's surprisingly tasteful in application. The new 'Slade's sheetmetal is taut and angular, in keeping with the Art & Science design theme popularized by Caddy's CTS sedan and SRX crossover. Gaps are tight, the bumpers flowing into the body. The oversized, crosshatch grille was strongly influenced by the popular Cadillac Sixteen concept vehicle.

World's Most Expensive Cars.jpg

You may not be able to afford one of these "rides" in this report by Dan Lienert of Forbes.com, but you can still take a look at your future purchase if or when you hit the jackpot on the lottery. 'The world's 10 most expensive automobiles, which you can see in the slide show that follows this piece, include such dreams-come-true as a street-legal, 10-cylinder Porsche race car (the Carrera GT) and cars with over 1,000 hp each ( Bugatti's Veyron 16.4 and SSC's Ultimate Aero). These kinds of cars make Ferraris and Aston Martins look like relative bargains; despite their fame, they are much cheaper than the cars on our list. Of the 10 most expensive cars, only two are made by brands with household names -- Porsche and Mercedes-Benz -- although I guess it depends on what your household is like.'

The Truth About Cars: The 2006 Lincoln Zephyr

Lincoln Zephyr.bmp

Robert Farago reviews the Lincoln Zephyr and points to some innovations which could go some way in improving the look and performance of this marque. 'Lincoln needs a front-wheel-drive mid-size sedan like Hummer needs a camouflage SMART (unless they use it as an H2 escape pod). Even if we ignore Lincoln’s illustrious past-- first betrayed in 1936 by a funny-looking car called a Zephyr-- the brand’s recent history sets the standard. Exhibitionist A: the Lincoln Continental Mark IV: a huge, thirsty, poorly-built, foul-handling beast from a time when jeans had bells at the bottom. While the infinitely smaller [modern] Zephyr is so safe and reliable it Hertz and boasts twice as much everything room than the old Mark, Lincoln’s ‘70’s luxobarge holstered a 7.5-liter V8 with more swagger than Ludacris at a Kapp Alpha Theta. Now THAT’S what I’m talking about. '
