The Dual Servo Spin welder is designed for welding circular parts that have a tight tolerance requirement for both the orientation between the parts being welded and the overall final welded assembly height. The new design builds on the solid foundation of Dukane’s existing single servo-spin welder, by replacing the pneumatic Z-axis drive with a second servomotor. The unit’s control system provides the ability to hold orientation tolerances of +/- 0.1 degree of rotation and Z-axis tolerances of 10 microns. In addition, the control system coordinates the performance of both servomotors thereby providing the user with a new welding mode Dukane calls “constant torque”. This “constant torque” welding mode provides the user with the ability to specify a torque value that most closely matches the melt flow rate of the material, and the controls system coordinates the Z-axis velocity and RPM to provide this torque throughout the weld cycle.

Drawbacks we found however are the size of the bin, something that shouldn't bother you if you are only cleaning a small flat and a fiddly hand wand set-up that requires you to construct it every time rather than as with the bigger model just extend it. However, where the DC24 outperforms the regular-sized DC15 is in its size and weight. It weighs 5.4kg.'

The Gadgeteer have publihsed a review of the iRobot Roomba Scheduler vacuum. 'Overall, the Roomba does an excellent job of cleaning, even though it was challenged in our house by dog and cat fur. Initially, it was louder than I originally anticipated, but we quickly became accustomed to the sound, especially in exchange for not having to run the regular vacuum. The virtual walls work well, but I was unable to find any way of scheduling these to turn on with the vacuum, so we had to remember to turn them on a few minutes before the vacuum turned on. The vacuum actually stops a couple of inches short of the virtual wall, but this wasn’t normally enough to worry about.'

In this review of the Soldius1 'solar-powered recharger for some handheld devices' on Technology Review, the reviewer laments the fact that the review is done in the dead of winter and hence the absence of sunlight. 'The Soldius1 was great at doing its thing outdoors, even on a cloudy day. But I wasn't about to sit in subfreezing temperatures to get that good light. Forget how uncomfortable it would be for me -- sharp cold isn't good for gadgets.All that said, the Soldius1 ($90 directly from its Dutch maker at mysoldius.com) is a great idea and works well. I dont mind using hand tools around the home but it is hard to avoid the urge to acquire the high-tech versions when they become available. In addition to the ease of use, the cordless power tools come with differnt conserns to thier manual equivalents. The primary issue relates to the battery which may or may not hold out for long periods of vigorous use. There is no easy solution to this issue but you should monitor your power tool and be able to guage how long the charge will hold up especially after purchase to determine whether you have made a reasonable choice.

The recent entries to the market of the cordless power drill/drivers are a definite improvement on the earlier versions of the “last century”. There is more power (here you should exercise some caution when handling) and nice ergonomics which lend to a more vigorous application to the various jobs.
