T-Mobile Sidekick iD Review at Brighthand

T-Mobile-Sidekick-iD.jpg

Brighthand have published a review of the T-Mobile Sidekick iD which keeps you connected with access to e-mail, instant messaging, and text messaging. ‘The Sidekick's landscape orientation allows concealment of a wide thumb-pad. Its keypad is just right for my thumbs, not requiring too much reach. I recall that the original Sidekick's overall width made typing a little more comfortable, at 4.5 inches from side-to-side, but the iD's 5.1 inches don't make it difficult. Although I won't say it's necessarily better than a Treo keyboard for its width, I'd be willing to bet it looks less intimidating to a novice.’

The Pharos GPS Phone is a sleek smartphone which features quad-band Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) cellular mode, Global Packet Radio Service (GPRS), EDGE, WiFi, Bluetooth, along with a two mega-pixel camera and FM radio. 'When handling the Pharos GPS phone during the Consumer Electronics Show, I was taken aback by its size. This is mostly because it was extremely thin. It felt very comfortable to hold. On its back, there's a bulge across the top, where the stylus slot and web cam are, so I don't see how anyone could drop the device.Speaking of the web cam, this located in a small, retractable arm that looks a bit like a cell phone antenna. Palm Treo 750 (Cingular) - ZDNet

Palm-Treo-750.jpg

ZDNet have posted their review of the PalmTreo 750 smartphone. 'Like the European version, the Palm Treo 750 carries a smaller footprint than Treos past, largely thanks to the integrated antenna. At 4.4x2.3x0.8inches and 5.4 ounces, it's only marginally smaller than the Treo 700wx (5.1x2.3x0.9 inches; 6.4 ounces), but it is more compact than some other Window Mobile Pocket PC Phone devices, such as the HP iPaq hw6900 series and the UTStarcom XV6700. That said, it will still make for a tight fit in a pants pocket. The smart phone features a soft-touch finish that gives it a rubbery texture and makes it easier to grip. The curved and tapered edges also make it comfortable to hold in the hand and to use as a phone.

Samsung D900 Slider Phone Review

Samsung%20D900.jpg

CNET reviews the slim, feature-rich, Samsung D900 slider phone. 'The Samsung D900 follows in the footsteps of some of Samsung's best-selling phones. The D500 was an outright hit and the D600 is still going strong, so the D900 has a strong pedigree. It is also part of Samsung's new breed of thin mobile phones, the Ultra Edition range. These are phones designed with pockets in mind, so unlike the D500 and D600, the D900 is very slim -- it immediately outdoes its predecessors with its size. It's certainly a feat of engineering, but this design flair is not present in every part of the phone. There are some ergonomic issues that we'd like to see resolved in the next generation.'

Nokia N73 Multimedia Phone Review

Nokia%20N73.jpg

The Nokia N73 Multimedia Phone has been reviewed over at Tech Digest. 'The first thing that you notice on picking up the N73 is the camera cover, which doesn't sit flush to the surface of the phone. However, whilst on first glance you might think it makes it look, well, odd, in fact it hides a key selling point of the handset - the camera. The camera itself is 3.2 megapixels, and launches as soon as you open the shutter - a revelation after being used to navigating various menus to get to a camera phone. You can adjust the resolution of the images, according to what you want to do with them, and how many pictures you want to be able to store on your phone. In a nice touch, they've added the size of print that each resolution will stretch too, which is exactly the kind of detail that your average user might not be sure of.'

Belkin WiFi Skype Phone Review At Gizmodo

Belkin%20WiFi%20Skype%20Phone.jpg

Gizmodo has reviewed the Belkin Skype WiFi phone which "is a phone that looks like your cell but works only with Skype and only over WiFi". 'The Skype phone looks just as good as all its press photos showing it with a black glossy front with a matted/rough back. However, just like with most products, the real thing rarely matches the product shots. The screen and top part of the front are nice and shiny, but the keys themselves are made of plastic and a bit less shiny. The rest of the material comprising the edge of the face and all of the back feels like a vinyl/leather/plastic mix, which gives it a rough texture. It actually feels pretty great, and gives a nice grip when you're making a call. It's nice to see a phone with only a minimum amount of brushed metal along the sides.'

BenQ-Siemens EF81.jpg

The BenQ-Siemens' EF81 clamshell tri-band GSM/3G phone has been reviewed by Sandra Vogel over at Trusted Reviews. 'Design-wise the EF81 is a little blocky for my taste, but the flip format means it is small for the pocket at 94mm tall, 51mm wide and 15.9mm deep. It also weighs an acceptable 110g. If you are immediately thinking of it as a possible rival to Motorola’s V3x then a quick specs comparison in this department reveals that this is a smaller and lighter handset: the V3x’s dimensions are 99mm x 53mm x 20mm and 130g.

LG CU500 Cellphone Review

LG CU500.jpg

CNET reviews LG's CU500 which is "the first carrier-offered HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) phone in North America". 'It's tempting to call the LG CU500 yet another Razr clone. After all, the Samsung MM-A900 and the Sanyo Katana have both made attempts at the Razr form factor, and the LG CU500 looks dangerously similar. But the clone moniker would be a disservice, as the LG CU500 is so much more than that. It's the first HSDPA phone offered by a North American carrier, which means it is the first handset that can reach connection speeds up to 1.8Mbps. Cingular has capitalized on the high speeds by packing in Cingular Video, its video streaming service, and Cingular Music, a music service portal. Together with a 1.3-megapixel camera, an audio player, a speakerphone, and more, we think the LG CU500 is definitely one of Cingular's flagship phones. The LG CU500 retails for $179.99, but you can get it for $79.99 after discounts and with a two-year service agreement.'

It's got an internal memory of 70MB, and a MiniSD slot which can expend it by a further 1GB. The RAZR K1 has been approved as a quad-band GSM / EDGE phone with Bluetooth. The manual lists the device as the K1 (GSM) lending credibility to other evidence that K1 will be the official designation for this phone and that a CDMA model is due out on Verizon as well. Like the Capri, the K1 has a Micro SD slot under the battery cover and is due to have the same 176 x 220 screen and 2 Megapixel camera as its slider cousin. It is not known when Motorola will officially announce the K1 or the slider code-named Capri, but since the normally secretive company did not extend the confidentiality period with the FCC on the K1, it is expected to be soon.’

CNET.com: Motorola Razr V3m Review

Motorola Razr V3m.jpg

CNET posts a review of the latest addition to the Razr line of cellphones. 'The Motorola Razr V3m is the successor to the Razr V3c, both of which are exclusive to Verizon Wireless. The most notable improvement is the addition of an integrated music player, a Micro SD card slot, and support for VZ Navigator, Verizon's GPS navigation service. Otherwise, the Razr V3m looks and feels exactly the same, and it has many of the same features as its sibling. The Razr V3m retails for much cheaper than the V3c--about $119.99 for a two-year contract and $169.99 for a one-year contract--but unless you want an integrated music player on your phone, you shouldn't feel compelled to upgrade.'

Nokia N80 GSM Cell Phone (Black)

Nokia N80 GSM Cell Phone Black.jpg

CNET reviews the rather pricey Nokia N80 multimedia cell phone which currently is not carried by any domestic US phone company. 'Let's be honest. While we get some neat cell phones here in the United States, the really cool stuff is usually available in Europe and Asia. Such is the case with the Nokia N series. This line of high-end mobiles is jam-packed with advanced multimedia features, and finally we were able to get our hands on the Nokia N80. A quick scan of the N80's features list shows a focus on imagery, as the phone boasts a sharp 3-megapixel camera, a second VGA camera, and image-editing apps. Though it's probably one of the most robust camera phones we've seen to date, it's not all about pictures. The quad-band N80 is a Symbian smart phone that lets you check e-mail (though not with push technology) and view Office documents--and yes, it's a decent phone. The Nokia N80 will appeal to gadget hounds and early adopters, but even then, you'll have to fork over some serious cash for the device. With no backing from a U.S. carrier, an unlocked version of the Nokia N80 will run you around $700. It's rumored Cingular will offer this phone, but that's unconfirmed as of this writing.'

Thomas Net.com: Protect Your Cell Phone Screens With ARclear Self Wetting Adhesives

ARclear Self Wetting AdhesiveARclear Self Wetting Adhesive.jpg

Ever so often there is the sorry picture of a cell phone user rubbing the device against some element of their clothing in the attempt to remove "foreign residue" from the device's screen. In the absence of a durable coating which would allow cell phone users to submerge the gadgets every now and then for a thorough cleaning, the ARclear self wetting adhesives seems a resonable alternative for preserving the freshness of the LCDs. 'Debuting at this year's show are two self-wetting adhesive films, ARclear® 90854 and ARclear® 90684, designed to provide temporary protection to the surface of touch screens and flat panel display screens in high-use, abusive or harsh environments, such as mobile phones, MP3 players, and PDAs. The adhesive virtually self-applies by spontaneously "wetting out" onto smooth surfaces. Both of these adhesive films can be repositioned repeatedly and are cleanly removable, even after an extended period of time, allowing users to replace the film when damaged while protecting the sensitive display underneath.

Nokia 9300 Smartphone (Cingular)

Nokia 9300 Smartphone Cingular.jpg

The Nokia 9300 though packed with handy features may be noted for those which are omitted such as Wi-Fi and camera capabilities. 'With the cover closed, the Nokia 9300 looks like a run-of-the-mill candy bar phone, albeit a fairly long, thick, and heavy one (5.2 by 2 by 0.8 inches and 5.9 ounces). The all-silver face is appropriately utilitarian for the 9300's target audience of mobile professionals, and Nokia keeps the design simple with a small power button on the top-right corner, a basic dial-pad layout, Talk and End buttons, two soft keys, and a five-way navigation control just below the 1.7-inch-diagonal, 65,536-color external display. The dial pad features bright white backlighting for use in dark rooms. Our only complaint here is that it's tough to activate the left or right navigation buttons without hitting the center Select button. And because the phone doesn't have dedicated volume buttons on the side, you have to pull it away from your face during calls to adjust the sound level with the navigation keys.'

The BBC News has indicated 'Nokia and Siemens are to merge their mobile and fixed-line phone network equipment businesses to create one of the world's biggest network firms. Both companies will have a 50% stake in the infrastructure company, to be based in Nokia's home country of Finland. "

RIM BlackBerry 7100i Cell Phone

Nextel BlackBerry 7100i.gif

The RIM BlackBerry 7100i (Nextel) Cell Phone combines Bluetooth-technology, push email, PTT, speakerphone, GPS, and Java all in one handy package. 'Sprint Nextel is helping itself to another slice of BlackBerry pie with the addition of RIM's BlackBerry 7100i. The first of the 7100 series to make its debut on Nextel's iDEN network, the 7100i's design and feature set is similar to that of its siblings; it has a slim form factor, a great display, and a quasi-QWERTY keyboard with SureType technology. Yet, it also offers some new tricks--most notably support for Nextel's walkie-talkie services--that when coupled with the BlackBerry's push e-mail technology makes the 7100i a great device for on-the-go professionals. Plus, with a QWERTY keyboard, the 7100i is easier to use than the Nextel i930 by Motorola. Finally, at $199.99 after rebates, the BlackBerry 7100i is a good deal.'

Red Ferret Journal: Neofree NF-4400 Portable Battery Pack

Neofree NF-4400.jpg

The Neofree NF-4400 Portable Battery Pack is but one of such devices likely to surface as time progresses. With so many wireless gadgets now being lugged around by one and all, not to mention the relative short lifespan of the average battery charge, I can see where the portable power supply would definitely come in handy. Needless to say the additional luggage may not be too welcomed by the mobile individual.

Mobile Whack: AA Battery Cell Phone Charger

AA Battery Cellphone Charger.bmp

Here is one device most cell phone users will find hard to ignore since the charge on cell phone batteries never seem to last past a few hours of constant use of the mobile. Mobile Whack highlights the Turbo Charge which “is a very handy portable charger which runs on a single AA battery and is able to juice up any cell phone battery in minutes” and I may add, comes with a slew of adaptors for the different phones. ‘Pretty compact and stylish, the turbo charge is shaped like a tube and can be fit anywhere .So be it anywhere in the world ,you dad can charge up his phone battery anytime by just plugging one end of the Turbo Charge adapter into the unit and the other end into a cell phone. So not only will it charge the battery thanks to its design you can handle your calls when you’re charging.’

Jabra Communications SP500 Bluetooth Portable Speakerphone

Jabra SP500 Bluetooth speakerphone.jpg

CNET reviews the Jabra SP500 Bluetooth speakerphone and while there are some 'cons' in the assessment, the device duly performs the task for which it is intended. 'Like the Bluant Supertooth II, the Jabra SP500 qualifies as a wireless speakerphone, in that it isn't a true hands-free device unless paired to a phone that has built-in voice-command operation. Though it's relatively bulky, the unit is modern and stylish without a single straight line to be found. The SP500 offers a good amount of talk and standby time, which means that forgetting to turn it off shouldn't be a problem. Also in its favor: when the rechargeable batteries eventually wear out, you can replace them with off-the-shelf AA nickel-metal-hydride cells.'

Motorola PVOT "Hand Cranked" Phone

Motorola PVOT Phone.jpg

Motorola's PVOT "concept phone" which is a hand crank, rechargeable AA battery powered phone is an excellent idea so long as the costs are not prohibitive to the target market in 'developing countries'. Of course persons in these countries are not sitting around waiting on the beneficence of phone manufactures and in some parts of the world the available cell service is being used in some ingenious ways. Indeed, in some parts of the African continent, unused minutes are used as a form of cash in small scale barter arrangements. 'The Motorola PVOT is powered by a hand crank that charges the rechargeable AA battery within. 25 cranks will grant you 1 minute of usage. Other features include a 125 x 125 dot matrix LCD and an "Eraser Shield" keypad. We aren't sure whether this concept.'

Motorola Razr V3i GSM Cell Phone

Motorola Razr V3i.jpg

The Motorola RAZR V3i has an updated and streamlined design, offering consumers a large internal color screen, quad-band technology and Bluetooth wireless technology. Designed for an enhanced imaging experience, this sleek handset comes complete with an integrated 1.23 megapixel digital camera with a full screen view-finder, zoom, and video capture and playback. 'The Motorola Razr V3i looks and feels almost exactly like the original Razr, except for a few notable upgrades. First is the inclusion of a full-fledged music player--while the European version of the V3i has the standard Motorola player, the Asian and the U.S. version has an iTunes player. Along with the built-in 12MB of memory, the V3i has a slot underneath the battery for a Micro SD (also known as TransFlash) card for additional storage.'

The authoritative analysis of Alan A. Reiter on the soon to be released Nokia N93 {multimedia computer] camera phone provides some useful insights on this feature-rich device. Sony Ericsson W810i Cell Phone (Black)

Sony Ericsson W810i.jpg

The absence of a carrier translates into a somewhat higher price for the Sony Ericsson W810i but the impressive device comes with an improved keypad; great music quality; Bluetooth, a 2-megapixel camera, an MP3 player, a memory card slot, and a speakerphone. ' Last year, Sony Ericsson definitely had orange on the brain. Both its W800i and W600i Walkman phones came in orange skins (granted, you could replace the faceplates on the W600i), as did the Walkman music player interface. For the Sony Ericsson W810i, however, the company took a slightly different track and dressed the phone in basic black. Sure, the Walkman interface is still the color of the Florida-grown citrus fruit, but the black exterior provides a nice contrast. At 3.9 by 1.8 by 0.8 inches and 3.5 ounces, it's exactly the same size as the W800i, and it retains the solid, comfortable feel in the hand. Surpassing many other cell phones in quality, the rich, vibrant display supports 262,144 colors and measures 1.8 inches diagonally (176x220 pixels).'

BlackBerry 8700g Wireless Handheld™

RIM BlackBerry 8700g.jpg

With the courtroom battles of the recent past firmly out of the way, Research in Motion [RIM], makers of the much adored Blackberry handhelds, along with T-Mobile, has sought to solidify its hold on this segment of the market with the addition of Intel processors and other features to a new set of devices. 'Unlike the RIM BlackBerry 7290 it replaces, the RIM BlackBerry 8700g offers a sleeker and more compact package at 4.3 by 2.7 by 0.7 inches and 4.7 ounces. Sure, it doesn't have the cell phone form factor of the BlackBerry 7100 series, and if you're new to BlackBerrys, the device's squarish shape will take acclimation, but in return, you get a full QWERTY keyboard and a spacious 2.5-inch-diagonal QVGA display. Sanyo MM-7500 (Sprint) Cell Phone

Sanyo MM-7500.jpg

'With a strong, masculine appearance, the Sanyo MM-7500 flip phone is definitely a guy's mobile. The textured rubber trim on the front and the side of the flip is eye-catching and should protect the handset from minor falls. It's no Nextel phone, but it's rugged and durable nonetheless. You get a choice of changeable faceplates that contrast nicely with the gray exterior. We like blue the best, but you also get silver and red. The MM-7500 measures a thick 3.4 by 1.9 by 1.1 inches, but it's surprisingly light, weighing only 4 ounces, so it's comfortable to hold while talking. The size of the phone, however, makes it difficult to fit into a pocket, and it's a tad large for a belt clip. The antenna is external and extendable, but it's flimsy when pulled out.' With a price tag of $299 this phone is no cheap gizmo but the advanced features bundled in these devices will come at a premium at least for the foreseeable future.

Motorola H700 Bluetooth Headset (Black)

Motorola H700.jpg

If there is one concern I had to come to terms with it is the sight of a headset attached to my ears while going about my daily chores. However, I am amazed at how many persons have simply adapted to the the extra piece of "attire" seemingly oblivious to the thought of how well the headset blends with their appearance. 'Arguably the best feature on the Motorola H700 is its PowerFlip foldable microphone. As with the HS850, folding the boom mic out turns on the headset, while folding it back in turns it off. This makes it incredibly easy to answer and end calls; you just flip it down to answer and flip it up to end. The reversible ergonomic ear hook has a rubberized back designed to cradle the ear, making for a very comfortable fit. Also, because the earpiece rests against the ear instead of inside it, you'll hardly realize you're wearing it.

'Samsung's SGH-i310 is more than just eye candy. Equipped with 8GB of internal memory, GSM and EDGE support and running on Windows Mobile 5.0 it's no lightweight performer. Engadget posts some photos of and comments on the "not-yet-available" Motorola ROKR E3 cell phone. 'We're still trying to figure out some of the specs for this one -- it was easier for our source to get their hands on the phone itself than on its spec sheet -- but near as we can tell the ROKR E3 is a GSM/GPRS/EDGE handset with 512MB of internal memory, Bluetooth, a 1.3 megapixel camera, a TransFlash memory card slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and some multimedia software. No iTunes, and that round thing that looks like a scroll wheel is actually just four buttons surrounding a run-of-the-mill joystick. Oh, and the keypad wasn't very easy to use either.'

It also has an 3.2MP AutoFocus camera, 3D Surround and a MiniSD slot, but that's rather normal nowadays. Motorola PEBL U6.jpg

CNET reviews the Motorola PEBL U6 GSM Mobile Phone [T-Mobile service] which though pricey ($299) comes packed with features. 'Sporting a sophisticated and very soothing design, the Pebl is so striking that it deserves to be named as one of the most attractive cell phones ever made. Under the hood, it comes with a generous range of features, including Bluetooth, a speakerphone, and world phone support. We were hoping for a higher-resolution camera, and as with all of Motorola's design-centric phones, we weren't impressed with the controls, but the Pebl nonetheless is a looker and a solid performer.'

'Despite Research In Motion's recent patent disputes, its BlackBerry is still the most sought-after handheld communications device for mobile professionals. Everybody wants a Motorola RAZR

RAZR V3c.jpg

Well almost! CNET reviews the most popular cellphone for 2005. 'As part of the Razr family, the Motorola Razr V3c for Verizon casts the same slim profile that has made it the most popular cell phone of 2005. At 3.9 by 2.1 by 0.6 inches and 3.5 ounces, the V3c is a hair bigger and heavier than the original Razr, but you don't notice the difference at all. In fact, it slips so easily into a pocket that it can be difficult to feel the vibrating ring. We liked the gray coloring--a sort of compromise between the black and silver models--though the flip mechanism was rather loose. The external display and controls and the location of the camera lens are the same on the first Razr. And here again, there's no camera flash.'
