Flip Video Mino HD - Trusted Reviews

Flip-Video-Mino-HD-Trusted-Reviews.jpg

Trusted Reviews have published a review of the Flip Video Mino HD pocket Internet camcorder. 'The Mino HD looks virtually identical to its non-HD predecessor. However, where most previous Flips came in a choice of colours - and the original Mino could be either black or white - the Mino HD has only one option: black. But, as they say in the fashion world, at least black never goes out of style. The only indication of the increased capabilities of this version is the subtle Mino HD logo on the back. Where the original shot VGA video at 640 x 480, the newcomer increases the resolution to 1,280 x 720, with the same progressively scanned 30 frames per second. The CMOS is actually slightly smaller, at 1/4.5in where the Mino has a 1/4in sensor, but this is still a fairly healthy size, with positive implications for low-light shooting, although Flip doesn't quote the CMOS resolution.'

Review: Kodak Zx1 HD Pocket Video Camera - CNET

Kodak-Zx1-HD-Pocket-Video-Camera.jpg

CNET have published a review of the Kodak Zx1 HD Pocket Video Camera (Yellow). 'The Zx1 incorporates the same 1/4.5-inch 1.6-megapixel sensor as the Zi6. However, according to Kodak, it has upgraded the processor in this model, which appears to make the camcorder zippier than its predecessor. It's also shrunk the LCD from 2.4 inches to 2 inches. But the Zx1 is still bigger than most of its competitors, particularly the Flip Video MinoHD. Even so, it's pretty compact and fits in most pockets. It also weighs more, 5.3 ounces, which is partially because it uses standard AA batteries instead of a slim lithium ion battery; it includes a set of NiMH batteries and charger. Using AAs means that in a pinch you can use readily available standard AA alkaline batteries to power the unit.'

Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2000 Review - PC Advisor

Sanyo-Xacti-VPC-HD2000.jpg

A review of the Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2000 camcorder has been posted over at PCAdvisor.co.uk. 'The Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2000 has a 16x optical zoom (up to 160x when combined with the digital zoom) that operates very smoothly. Having zoomed in using the standard zoom we took some really quite detailed footage of underwater pond life from about 15ft above the surface. It helped that the water wasn't murky, but the colour and detail certainly impressed. We were also surprised by how much audio the Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2000 picked up. We took a riverboat trip down the Thames, punctuated by what seemed a fairly indistinct commentary. To our surprise, we were able to hear everything the tour guide had said when we played back the footage.'

Minoru 3D Webcam Review - Register Hardware

Minoru-3D-Webcam.jpg

The Register Hardware have published a review of the Novo Minoru 3D webcam. 'According to developer PDT, ‘minoru’ is the Japanese word for ‘reality’, and the aim of the Minoru webcam is to capture 3D images that are more realistic than the 2D pictures that we normally see on a computer screen. The Minoru uses the same ‘anaglyph’ technique as 3D classics such as Jaws 3D, in which two separate images – one tinted red, the other blue – are superimposed one on the other and then viewed though coloured glasses that have suitably hued lens. This creates a kind of ‘visual stereo’ effect that has more depth than a conventional 2D image.'

Flip minoHD Review - Freep.com

Flip-minoHD.jpg

A review of the Flip minoHD camcorder has been posted over at Freep.com. 'The new minoHD is, like previous models, a beauty in simplicity. There are minimal controls, all flat and recessed. A big red record button, a play/stop button to watch your videos, touch-sensitive forward and backward arrows for rewind or fast forward, a delete button, and plus and minus buttons for operating the 2X digital zoom. There is no tape. All is recorded on flash memory. You can record up to an hour of HD video and audio on the minoHD. Make it as one very long movie or break it up into as many clips as you want. When you’re done with it or have transferred the video to your computer or burned to a DVD or e-mailed it to friends, hit the touch-sensitive trash icon and it deletes the clip.'

Review: RCA Small Wonder EZ210 Traveler

RCA-Small-Wonder-EZ210-Traveler.jpg

A review of the RCA Small Wonder EZ210 Traveler camcorder has been psoted over at the WashingtonPost.com. 'RCA's Small Wonder Travel EZ210 is an ultra-compact camcorder in the style of the Flip series from Pure Digital and myriad other clones. These camcorders have a simple raison d'être: enabling you to quickly and easily record video for the internet. The Small Wonder Traveler delivers on this promise with its integrated USB connector and built-in software for uploading straight to YouTube. The design is incredibly straight-forward: the Traveler has just a couple of basic buttons and no menu interface. The lens has no moving parts, so don't expect an optical zoom, manual focus, or shutter speed control. In fact, there are no manual controls whatsoever—you really do just point and shoot.'

Creative Vado Camcorder Review - Technology Reviews

Creative-Vado-Camcorder.jpg

A review of the Creative Vado camcorder has been posted over at the WashingtonPost.com. 'The Creative Vado records to 2GB of internal, non-removable flash memory and contains a removable battery pack that recharges when the Vado's USB connector is plugged in (a fully charged battery lasts roughly 145 minutes). Pure Digital's Flip Mino uses a similar battery system, although it is not removable or replaceable, while the Flip Ultra utilizes standard AA batteries. The Vado also has an AV-out port if you want to watch your videos on a TV—something that will quickly establish how poor the video quality on the Vado really is. The internal software on the camcorder doesn't allow for any editing or adjustment and only assists you with copying footage to a computer or uploading to YouTube. Also, the software is not compatible with Macs.'

Samsung NV4 Review - Register Hardware

Samsung-NV4.jpg

The Register Hardware have published a review of the Samsung NV4 multimedia camera. 'The NV4 comes in a compact stainless body that looks and feels very classy. It’s available in four colours (silver, black, pink and titanium) and its slender lines are reinforced by its internal zoom lens, which means that nothing pops out of the front, even when you’re at the telephoto end of the zoom.

Kodak Zi6 Camcorder Review - CNET

Kodak-Zi6.jpg

CNET have published a review of the Kodak Zi6 mini camcorder. 'Like many inexpensive competitors, the Kodak Zi6 is technically an HD camcorder the way a tomato is technically a fruit: it meets the definition, but doesn't deliver the experience. True, the Zi6 records video in 1,280x720-pixel resolution at both 30 frames per second and 60fps--720p resolution--which technically qualifies it as an HD camcorder, but a lot of factors go into creating an image, not just a CMOS sensor capable of capturing an image at a certain resolution and frame rate. Still, the 720p video it does capture is a step up from the 640x480-pixel VGA resolution video you typically find on competing sub-$200 direct-to-YouTube camcorders from Flip Video, RCA, and Creative.'

Philips SPC 620NC WebCam - PC Mag

Philips-SPC-620NC-WebCam.jpg

PC Magazine have published a review of the Philips SPC 620NC webcam. 'Somehow Philips didn't get the memo about how design can drive demand. The SPC 620NC looks like webcams from circa 1999. Your color options are humdrum black or silver, and the plastic stand feels cheap—it's really just a tripod that rests on your desktop or clamps to your laptop screen. If you do stand it on a desk, it's likely to tip over, thanks to the cam's extreme lightness in relation to its substantial USB cord. If you clamp the camera onto your monitor or laptop screen, it doesn't exactly stay firmly in place nearly as well as the better-designed LifeCam VX-5000. Worse still, when I was testing the SPC 620NC with a Sony VAIO AR790 widescreen notebook, I was afraid that the device's troublesome plastic hinge would scratch my screen.'

RCA Small Wonder EZ200 Review - CNET

RCA-Small-Wonder-EZ200.jpg

CNET have publsihed a review of the RCA Small Wonder EZ200 minicamcorder. 'The camcorder ships with a 1GB microSD card that slips into a slot in the battery compartment; you remove the camcorder's front cover to get to both the batteries and memory card. What's nice is that you can buy an additional memory card to have on hand in case you fill up the camera with video on a longer vacation, or you can simply buy a much higher-capacity card (up to 8GB) to store several hours of video. As it stands, the 1GB card gives you about 30 minutes of video at the highest quality HQ setting. You also have the option of recording at the lower-quality Web Sharing setting, but we recommend sticking with the best.

Creative Vado Pocket Video Cam Review - PC Mag

Creative-Vado-Pocket-Video-Cam.jpg

PC Magazine have published a review of the Creative Vado Pocket Video Cam. 'From first glance, it's clear that Creative invested a lot in the design department. Where the Flip's form factor seems to echo its low price, suggesting something of a disposable nature, the Vado's creators imbued it with the sort of design generally reserved for far pricier gadgets. Available in silver or hot pink, it's sleeker and thinner than the Flip, and, at just shy of 3 ounces with its battery, weighs about a third less than Pure Digital's device. Each has a comparable width, but the Vado manages to sneak in a bright 2.0-inch screen, beating the Flip Ultra by half an inch.

Review: Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorder - MobileTechReview

Flip-Video-Ultra-Series-Camcorder.jpg

A review of the compact Flip Video Ultra Series camcorder has been posted over at MobileTechReview.com. ‘Whether it’s because of an incredibly unlikely opportunity, or just the incredibly short attention span demonstrated by many people in the information age, there are a growing number of situations where even an advanced, sophisticated video camera just won’t do you any good if it is too complicated or slow to capture the action. Recognizing this huge potential market for fast, easy video cameras, Pure Digital Technologies has introduced the Flip camera line, including the new Flip Video Ultra series. As you might have guessed, the Flip Video Ultra doesn’t offer all the features or quality of a pro-level camera, but it actually comes a lot closer than you might expect. In short, if convenience is one of your highest priorities in a digital video camera, the Ultra is a slick and effective choice.’

Vivitar Vivicam 6200W Digital Camera Review - Computeractive

Vivitar-Vivicam-6200W.jpg

A review of the Vivitar Vivicam 6200W waterproof camera has been posted over at Computeractive. 'This chunky model from Vivitar is hard to mislay in its jaunty yellow body, though some users may feel that the design makes it look more like a toy than a serious camera. It can take pictures safely at depths of up to 10 metres. Snorkelling, then, is an option, and deeper sea exploration as well. Every button and switch has a rubberised housing and there are locks to make sure the camera is really sealed into place before you jump into the water to capture the life aquatic. The buttons are large, which does make it easier to use underwater.'

Busbi-Video.jpg

A review of the ultra slim busbi Video digital camcorder has been posted over at Trusted Reviews. ‘As the price makes rather obvious, this is a video camera aimed at the complete novice hoping to have a bit of fun with video without having to fork out on a major purchase. It's something you could even buy for a kid to try their hand with. The busbi Video is very simple, with just four single-function buttons, and small enough to fit easily into a pocket. Think of the busbi as being a bit like a camcorder phone without the phone.’

'The Optia AF is Creative's 13th webcam branded under its Live! banner, but the first to feature both an auto-focus lens and a two-megapixel image sensor. Aesthetically, the Optia AF is a handsome piece of kit. You can instantly playback what you capture in the 1.5” LCD screen, then delete it if you’re not satisfied. Sony DVDirect VRD-MC3 - Tech Digest

Sony-DVDirect-VRD-MC3.jpg

Tech Digest have reviewed the Sony DVDirect VRD-MC3 DVD Recorder which allows you to record both video and digital photos to DVDs without requiring the use of a PC. 'The form factor is quite distinctive – pretty typical for Sony – although it does look like two different units have been squeezed together. But at least it should be at home on a desk or table. It also has a weighty, robust feel to it, so even though it doesn’t look particularly ideal for carrying around, should you want to take it out and about instead of weighing yourself down with a laptop, it should hold up pretty well.'
