OSRAM equips hotel conference room with LED light

The Courtyard Marriott Hotel in Regensburg now has yet another attraction. In the newly refurbished conference room known as the “Light” room, linear modules with Golden Dragon LEDs from OSRAM are used to create any lighting of any mood, color and intensity. The LED modules are concealed behind a large panel. Depending on the purpose to which the room is being used, they can provide bright light for concentrating, soft calming light or exciting color sequences. The wall can also be used as a projection surface. OSRAM Opto Semiconductors completed the project together with LI-EX (LED Light Design Expert).

The background lighting for the panel is provided by linear modules containing Golden Dragon LEDs in red, green and blue. They produce colored light directly without the need for filters and therefore with no loss of efficiency. The result is powerful vibrant colors. Countless lighting moods can be created in any color and any brightness. It is even possible to set up smooth color transitions through the entire spectrum. Thanks to their small size the LED modules can be integrated inconspicuously behind a panel. They are dimmable, extremely durable (with a life of around 50,000 hours) and virtually maintenance-free. These semiconductor light sources are therefore ideal as illumination and design elements, particularly for integration in lighting panels and other architectural structures.

A review of the Acer K10 projector has been posted over at Computeractive.co.uk. 'Acer’s K10 projector does away with the lamp, replacing the light source with a bright LED light. LEDs generate very little heat and are more efficient at generating light, but they can't put out nearly as much light as the conventional lamp in a standard projector. A typical one of those will give out between 10 and 20 times more light than the Acer K10 (for those comparing the specifications, the K10 is measured as outputting 100 lumens of brightness).'

A review of the Dark Blade 3-Channel Helicopter from ThinkGeek has been posted over at RCGroups.com. 'The Dark Blade is a coaxial helicopter with one pair of main blades turning one direction and the other set of main blades turning in the opposite direction. This is a very stable method of flying, and no tail rotor is needed to stabilize the helicopter. The downward facing rear rotor blade is not used to stabilize the copter but rather to bank it so it can go forward or backward. Turning to either side is done by slowing one of the main set of blades just slightly. The left stick on the transmitter is the throttle control for the helicopter. Move it up, and the main rotors on the helicopter accelerate, and it lifts off. Move the stick to the left or the right, and the helicopter pivots in place to either direction in response to the transmitter's signal.'

Breakthrough Design Improves Workflow, Boosts Productivity

With its ergonomic design, the ultra-slim Intuos4 pen tablet is the ideal creative instrument for working with digital content in comfort. Available in four sizes, small, medium, large and extra large, all wide format, the Intuos4's new asymmetrical design puts all of the customizable ExpressKeys(TM) and Touch Ring on one side of the tablet, making them all available to the user's non-dominant hand. ' The EOS system comes with a main base station and one extra wireless speaker, and it's available in either black or white (though IntelliTouch is planning on discontinuing the white version). You can purchase up to three extra speakers (for $130 each) that will extend the entire system to four maximum wireless speakers: the EOS100RB (black) and the EOS100R (white--presumably also slated for being discontinued). During the presentation, Grote suggested that the audience throw away everything they know about LED illumination, and explained that at less than 1 millimeter thick, LightForm is a highly-advanced, thin-film, solid-state lighting device.

Grote added that LightForm is a most environmentally-friendly lighting technology. Showing the components that make up a standard LED marker lamp, Grote compared and contrasted the material volume used to make an equivalent marker lamp using LightForm and underscored the reduced environmental impact.

Grote also explained that with less material, mounting a LightForm lamp can be quickly accomplished via a peel-and-stick method, using the familiar adhesive now found on conspicuity tape and other similar products. Grote also noted that the company would draw on its considerable optical expertise to engineer never-before-seen light patterns and configurations. The audience was able to handle and examine product specimens and was shown examples of 3- foot and 6-foot strips of LightForm. The product was also shown in an assortment of colors and decorative finishes, many wrapping around complicated geometries.

In addition to highlighting the 20th anniversary of Grote's 1989 press conference introducing the first LED lamp, Grote took a moment to reflect on press conferences in 2007 and 2008 and how the introduction of Grote's LED WhiteLight technology, its Trilliant LED WhiteLight work lamp and its innovative LED Portfolio symbolize Grote's continued commitment to moving the industry forward.
