Dialight dual flashing beacon will consign Xenon tubes to history

Dialight-dual-flashing-beacon.jpg

Press Release

Farmingdale, NJ –– Applied LED technology specialist Dialight has introduced an industry first with its ETL certified and 5-year complete performance warranted all LED dual flashing strobe to replace Xenon technology that typically lasts only up to two years.

In fact the completely sealed flash head, designed to suit any tower needing medium intensity L-864/L-865 dual lighting systems, is more likely to exceed a 10-year life expectancy thereby vastly reducing the need for maintenance and associated expensive tower climbs.

Maintenance is made even easier as the power supply/control box can be located at the base of the tower or up to 550 ft from the light engine and is the industry’s first power drive module equipped with full diagnostics routines for quick fault finding.

At around 45 lbs and less than 12” high, Dialight’s LED dual strobe is half the size of the Xenon equivalent and by far the smallest on the market, offering significant reduction in wind loading. Using state-of-the-art high flux LED technology it is also resistant to shock and vibration and with no power supply components in the flash head it eliminates RF interference with cell networks, both of these being common problems with Xenon technology.

Dialight’s dual flashing strobe is designed to use low voltage flexible cable, eliminating the need to send high voltage up a tower, while saving on power consumption. It also has lightning protection tested up to 2MV/10kA and operates at temperatures from -40°C to +55°C. The environmentally friendly all LED dual strobe uses Dialight’s highly precise patent pending optics to achieve minimum ground scatter and contains no harmful waste material.

This product is available now through Dialight’s worldwide network of distributors.

Dialight plc (LSE: DIA.L) is leading the lighting revolution for industrial users across the world. Applying leading edge LED technology it produces retro-fittable lighting fixtures designed specifically for hazardous locations, obstruction lighting, traffic and rail signalling to vastly reduce maintenance, save energy, improve safety and ease disposal. Versions of these high specification luminaires are also produced for more general industrial and outdoor situations. The company is headquartered in the UK with operating locations in the UK, USA, Germany and Mexico. More information is available at www.dialight.com.

Dialight launches beacon with sharpest cut-off beam in the industry

D264-Series-LED-Red-beacon.jpg

Press Release

Farmingdale, NJ -- Applied LED technology specialist Dialight now manufactures its D264 Series LED based medium intensity red beacon in the U.S. utilizing state-of-the-art optical design to achieve the most compact, efficient, FAA compliant L-864 device in the market while also meeting the stringent light pollution requirements of ICAO.

Dialight’s patented optic creates the sharpest cut-off beam in the industry to achieve almost zero light pollution at ground level while ensuring that 2,000 candelas are still visible to aircraft.

Dialight’s D264 Series high flux LED based beacon is designed to replace 300mm incandescent obstruction lighting fixtures and uses 90% less energy. Resistant to shock and vibration and with a 5-year performance warranty, it lasts years longer than incandescent fixtures and its robust, low power design makes expensive maintenance a thing of the past.

The compact D264 Series beacon, which can be flashed or steady burned and weighs less than 32 lbs, is designed to mount onto existing bolt pattern installations and allow simple replacement of the light engine.

With a cast aluminum base and stainless steel hardware, the UV resistant acrylic dome is sealed to withstand the dynamic conditions experienced in the most severe environments around the world in temperatures from -40 to +55 Celsius, direct sunlight, wind blown rain, wind in excess of 150mph, high humidity and salt fog.

RothDock wireless iPod dock Review - Pocket-Lint

RothDock-wireless-iPod-dock.jpg

A review of the RothDock wireless iPod dock has been posted over at Pocket-Lint.com. 'The system consists of a sender and receiver unit, which work on a 2.4GHz frequency as many of these things do. The dock itself is the sender, while a small receiver unit features a 3.5mm jack that you can connect to an aux input on any other device. There is also an adaptor in the box so you can connect to analogue stereo inputs too. Both the sender and receiver units have their own power supply and feature a red LED which flashes to let you know there is power. We found the connection was almost instantaneous and it didn't suffer any interference from our other wireless devices in the vicinity. (Should you encounter conflict with another device, there are 11 channels available that you can manually select.)'

Review: Kodak Zx1 HD Pocket Video Camera - CNET

Kodak-Zx1-HD-Pocket-Video-Camera.jpg

CNET have published a review of the Kodak Zx1 HD Pocket Video Camera (Yellow). 'The Zx1 incorporates the same 1/4.5-inch 1.6-megapixel sensor as the Zi6. However, according to Kodak, it has upgraded the processor in this model, which appears to make the camcorder zippier than its predecessor. It's also shrunk the LCD from 2.4 inches to 2 inches. But the Zx1 is still bigger than most of its competitors, particularly the Flip Video MinoHD. Even so, it's pretty compact and fits in most pockets. It also weighs more, 5.3 ounces, which is partially because it uses standard AA batteries instead of a slim lithium ion battery; it includes a set of NiMH batteries and charger. Using AAs means that in a pinch you can use readily available standard AA alkaline batteries to power the unit.'

Panasonic TX-L32X15B Review - Pocket-Lint

Panasonic-TX-L32X15B.jpg

A review of the Panasonic TX-L32X15B HD Ready Freeview Widescreen LCD TV has been posted over at Pocket-Lint.com. 'Sat on its pedestal stand, the TX-L32X15B doesn’t exactly scream luxury. Its wide screen surround and rather drab design shows nothing has changed since last year’s Vieras, though the TX-L32X15B’s insides are definitely worth a second glance. Unlike on the TX-L32S10B, this Viera has Panasonic’s very latest picture processing technology inside. Called V-Real 4, it consists of an important invention as far as LCD TVs are concerned: 100Hz Intelligent Frame Creation. When an image - say, a car or a person - runs across the screen, or when the camera pans quickly, it often causes the LCD screen to judder.'

Review: Pure Digital Evoke-2S DAB and FM Radio - Register Hardware

Pure-Digital-Evoke-2S.jpg

The Register Hardware have published a reivew of the Pure Digital Evoke-2S DAB and FM radio. 'Right out of the blocks, the machine feels chunky and well built - it's 290 x 210 x 120mm. You certainly wouldn't want to drop it on your foot, but it’s still light enough to move around easily enough. The machine is done out in the familiar Evoke maple finish with carry handle, and has an attractive brushed aluminium face, with click dials and push-button controls. Everything is laid out simply and labelled clearly, so there's no need to go near the manual to figure out which button does what. All the controls feel solid and precise. The machine isn't overloaded with accessories. In fact, you get European and UK power leads, and that's it. However, you can purchase the company’s ChargePAK internal rechargeable battery for true portability, as well as an iPod dock. We can't help feeling that, for the price, the Evoke-2S really should come with these in the box.'

Southwing SH241 Review - Laptop Mag

Southwing-SH241.jpg

Laptop Magazine have published a review of the affordable Southwing SH241headset. 'The first thing you’ll notice about the SH241 is the hook. At 2.2 x 0.7 x 0.4 inches, it’s almost twice as long as the headset itself. And because it’s made of thick black plastic, it’s hard not to notice. The headset is short and narrow, with rounded edges. Although its shape is sleek, the Southwing SH241 loses style points for the front surface, which displays the company logo lengthwise, with dual-colored LED volume controls on either side. It’s impossible to tell by looking which volume button is which; for the record, the one closest to the skull decreases volume. Plus, the lights double as a battery indicator. The headset comes with three metallic face plates in burgundy, lavender, and gunmetal gray.'

Onkyo HT-S9100THX Review - CNET

Onkyo-HT-S9100THX.jpg

A review of the Onkyo HT-S9100THX 7.1 Channel Receiver and speaker package has been posted over at CNET. 'The HT-S9100THX's receiver looks exactly like a standard component-style Onkyo AV receiver. The 25-pound unit is somewhat of a beast for a home-theater-in-a-box unit, measuring 6 inches high, 17 inches wide, and 15 inches deep. The majority of the device is covered in black plastic except for the unit's display that runs along the middle of the receiver. There's also some connectivity available right on the front of the HT-S9100THX, consisting of a composite video AV input and a headphone jack. The included speakers are as bulky as the receiver. The front left, center, and right speakers take up a bit of real estate--each measuring 17 inches high by 6 inches wide by 8 inches deep--so we really can't recommend the system for small rooms. Ideally, you'll want this system in a larger home theater room, where you can comfortably lay out the system.'

Western Digital WD TV Review - PC Advisor

Western-Digital-WD-TV-PC-Advisor.jpg

PC Advisor have published their review of the Western Digital WD TV media player. 'The Western Digital WD TV's two USB ports - one at front, one at back - let you keep two storage devices connected to the player simultaneously. The WD TV ships on its own, without a hard drive, but it will work with any hard drive, not just Western Digital models (the dock that ships with the drive will perfectly fit a Western Digital Passport portable drive, however). One bonus for multiplatform households: the device can read disks formatted for either Windows (FAT-32, NTFS) or Mac OS X (HFS+ without journaling), so you'll be able to view media files from every computer in your home even if you have a mix of Macs and Windows PCs.'

Amazon Kindle 2 - Digital Trends

Amazon-Kindle-2-Digital-Trends.jpg

Digital Trends have published their review of the Amazon Kindle 2 e-reader. 'Although the Kindle 2 is intended mostly for book reading, it’s actually amazingly flexible when it comes to magazines, newspapers, blogs, and just about any document you have on your PC or Mac. Noticeably taller than the original Kindle (measuring 8 inches), but having lost a few millimeters in thickness (at just over a quarter inch), the Kindle 2 looks and feels sleek and trendy. The original Kindle had a goofy “space-age design” right out of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 movie, so the Kindle 2 is a major improvement. It’s also worth noting that the hinges in the included real leather cover hold the e-book reader tight, so it will never flop around or go flying down an aisle on an airplane. Amazon even offers a wide assortment of covers for about $25 to $100 each.'

Nextar M3-03 Review - PC Mag

Nextar-M3-03.jpg

PC Magazine have published a review of the Nextar M3-03 portable GPS navigator. 'At 3 by 3.9 by 0.9 inches (HWD), the 6.1-ounce M3-03 is significantly thicker than most GPS units on the market. The 3.5-inch display features a standard 320-by-240-pixel resolution, and the included 1GB SD card contains Navteq maps for all 50 states (but not Canada), and a points-of-interest (POI) database with 1.6 million entries, a fairly standard complement in this price range. You also get a basic photo viewer and music player in the bargain. In the box, you get AC and auto power adapters, a padded carrying case, and a stylus. The included mounting bracket features a single ball and socket with a lock nut. While this is a common configuration, it doesn't allow for a lot of flexibility. Still, when it was mounted on my windshield, I was able to adjust the device so it was level.'

Review: Orb Audio Mod 2 and Uber Ten Subwoofer - Digital Trends

Orb-Audio-Mod-2.jpg

Digital Trends have published a review of the Orb Audio Mod 2 and Uber Ten Subwoofer combo. 'The Mod2 is essentially two of the company's spherical Mod1 speakers installed on a high-quality, heavy gauge steel desk stand and wired together. Each Orb contains a 3” full range polypropylene driver cone with a special surround material; fully shielded, high density neodymium magnet; and a slew of other fancy stuff that adds up to a well thought-out design. The frequency response of the Mod1 and Mod2 satellites on their own is not published. Instead, Orb claims a total system response of 28-20,000 hz. The Mod1 is listed with an 8 ohm nominal impedance, the Mod2 at 4 ohms nominal, and are considered to be safe to use with just about any receiver or amplifier. You can check with Orb about higher power amps and receivers. On the provided desk stand, the Mod2 measured 4 3/16” W x 9 ½ “ H x 4 7/8” D.'

Panasonic TC-P50S1 Review - CNET

Panasonic-TC-P50S1.jpg

CNET have published a review of the Panasonic TC-P50S1 plasma TV. 'The new Panasonic design looks a lot like the old, albeit more rounded on the corners and the edges. The TC-PS1 series sports the hidden speakers that have become fashionable in HDTVs lately, with sound coming from underneath. Glossy black covers the entire frame, with a slim strip of silver shaped to mirror the gently curved bottom edge of the panel. Once we tore off the Energy Star sticker, the only other interruptions among all that black gloss were the Panasonic and Viera logos along with an indicator light and a big power button that nonetheless blended nicely into the frame. The company's glossy black stand looks the same as last year, and still lacks swivel capability.'

'The MP620's photocentric features include the ability to print from PictBridge cameras and memory cards, as well as a 2.5-inch color LCD that lets you preview photos before printing. It also offers a 300-sheet input capacity divided into two trays, giving you the flexibility to load two kinds of paper at once and switch between them as needed. In addition to printing, it can also scan over a network and work as a standalone copier. I tested the printer under both Windows XP and Vista, but according to Canon, it also ships with drivers and a full set of software for Windows 2000 and Mac OS 10.3.9 to 10.5.x.'

HDX 1000 NMT Player - IT Reviews

HDX-1000-NMT.jpg

IT Reviews have published a review of the HDX 1000 NMT (Network Media Tank) Player. 'Setting the HDX 1000 up on a network is thankfully quite an easy task. When you fire it up for the first time it takes up to a minute to initialise the hardware and present you with the main interface, though from this point on, 'soft boots' (i.e. turning the device on and off via the remote) are instantaneous. A stripped down but quite concise series of menus allows you to configure network support by selecting the usual SSID and network profile, entering a passcode where relevant. From here you have a choice of sharing media through Windows Media Player's library or through Windows' shared folder support.'

Amazon Kindle 2 Review - Laptop Mag

Amazon-Kindle-2-Laptop-Mag.jpg

Laptop Magazine have published a review of the Amazon Kindle 2 wireless reading device. 'The brushed-aluminum back of the device contrasted with its white face makes the Kindle look like an Apple-designed product—which is a compliment. In our hands, it felt more like a premium slate than an awkward, big plastic device like the original Kindle. On the previous Kindle, you could remove the back to access the battery and the memory card. While the Kindle 2 ditches the memory card slot, it can also store 7 times the amount of books that the original could (more than 1,500). The Next Page keys are now smaller and inward-facing to prevent the accidental page-turning issue that was prevalent on the first Kindle. The added Home button gives quick access to the home screen, instead of having to search for the small Home icon on the keyboard. Two stereo speakers now sit on the rear of the device and a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top.'

A review of the Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2000 camcorder has been posted over at PCAdvisor.co.uk. 'The Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2000 has a 16x optical zoom (up to 160x when combined with the digital zoom) that operates very smoothly. Having zoomed in using the standard zoom we took some really quite detailed footage of underwater pond life from about 15ft above the surface. It helped that the water wasn't murky, but the colour and detail certainly impressed. We were also surprised by how much audio the Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2000 picked up. We took a riverboat trip down the Thames, punctuated by what seemed a fairly indistinct commentary. To our surprise, we were able to hear everything the tour guide had said when we played back the footage.'

TomTom One XL-S Review - Dev Hardware

TomTom-One-XL-S-Dev-Hardware.jpg

Dev Hardware have published a review of the TomTom ONE XL-S portable GPS navigator. 'The TomTom XL-S sports a relatively simple design, since it is controlled via the touchscreen interface. The on/off button is on the top, speaker and mounting clip on the back, and proprietary USB cord input and SD card slot on the bottom of the device. The fact that this model does have an SD card slot is a big plus, since the internal memory is almost completely full straight out of the box. This feature allows you to add additional maps, voices, images, and so forth, without having to erase things already on the device in order to free up some memory.'

JBL Duet II Review - CNET

JBL-Duet-II.jpg

CNET have published a review of the JBL Duet II desktop speakers. 'We've always been rather fond of JBL's futuristic designs, and the Duet II speakers are no exception. The package contains a pair of drives that look rather like docked space shuttles. A circular base supports a tapered end that bulges out to form a cylinder that slightly tapers again at the top. The front of each speaker is wrapped in a silver clothe grille that is emblazoned with the JBL logo, while the back is encased in glossy black plastic. The Duet II is a bit on the large side for a desktop unit, with the base of each measuring 4 inches in diameter and the mini towers themselves standing 10.5 inches tall. Still, the overall tall-and-narrow shape works well for positioning on either side of a computer monitor.

Skooba Checkthrough Messenger Review - Notebook Review

Skooba-Checkthrough-Messenger.jpg

Notebook Review have published a review of the Skooba Checkthrough Messenger bag. 'The Skooba Checkthrough bag is designed to meet the TSA guidelines for a checkpoint friendly bag, meaning that a laptop can remain inside the bag all the way through the security checkpoint. A dedicated laptop compartment offers security officials a clear x-ray image of the computer inside of the bag. The Skooba bag unzips from both sides of the handle, making it easy to pick up and carry once it's been through an X-ray machine. A large interior compartment and smaller exterior compartment make up the rest of this bag's considerable bulk. You'll find the usual pockets for gadgets, pens and business cards in the exterior compartment, as well as a clear plastic pouch for regulation-sized liquids.'

Digital FM Transmitter for $64.95 @ C.Crane

Digital-FM-Transmitter.jpg

C.Crane has reduced their Digital FM Transmitter to $64.95 plus shipping. 'The FM Transmitter uses FM radio waves to send sound from any device you choose (as long as it has a headphone jack) to any nearby radio or stereo system. The only wire you have to connect is from the FM Transmitter to your gear. Simple as that. And since the Transmitter works with any device that has a headphone jack, you can use it with CD players, satellite radios, and any other audio device with a headphone jack. One of the unsung qualities of C. Crane’s Digital FM Transmitter is its extreme versatility. While most people use it to send music from their computers or MP3 players to a nearby radio, some customers have told us how they use it with their guitars, portable DVD players (a lot of fun in cars), and even other radios.'

Garmin Nuvi 265WT Review - Digital Trends

Garmin-Nuvi-265WT.jpg

A review of the Garmin Nuvi 265WT portable navigator has been posted over at DigitalTrends.com. 'At $299, Garmin’s Nuvi 265WT is among the cheapest in its line of free-traffic-equipped navigation systems, below the entire 7-series, which has more features, yet above the ordinary Nuvi 265T, which has a smaller 3.5-inch screen (the “W” in the 265WT model number denotes a 4.3-inch widescreen). We found that this mix of price, features, and Garmin’s typical quality makes it one of the best values around today. What does $299 buy you? The Nuvi 265WT includes a number of features above and beyond your basic run-of-the-mill navigator. For starters, it has text-to-speech capabilities for reading off street names as you drive rather than ambiguous directions (“Turn left on Powell Avenue,” rather than “Turn left,” for instance).'

Samsung BD-P4600 Blu-ray Player Review - Trusted Reviews

Samsung-BD-P4600-Blu-ray-Player-Trusted-Reviews.jpg

Trusted Reviews have published their review of the Samsung BD-P4600 Blu-ray Player. 'The BD-P4600's wall mountability is reflected in its rulebook-rewriting design, which makes it the most jaw-dropping hi-def deck around. With its slim 1.5in profile, elegantly curved bodywork and piano black finish infused with charcoal grey highlights and translucent edges, the BD-P4600 is beautifully unique and will no doubt draw looks of pure envy from anyone who claps eyes on it. On the deck's front panel is a row of touch-sensitive buttons, which ups the wow factor even further, and a small display panel that shows the elapsed time. Build quality is a bit plasticky but we'll cut Samsung some slack given that lightness is a virtue on a wall-mountable player.'

Pure Avanti Flow DAB Radio Review - Pocket-Lint

Pure-Avanti-Flow-DAB-Radio.jpg

Pocket-Lint have published a review of the Pure Avanti Flow DAB radio. 'The Pure Digital Avanti Flow is more than just an iPod speaker dock and at £270 though it has to be. The Avanti flow combines DAB digital radio, media streaming service and Internet radio in one low-slung and compact package. Construction is especially robust: the unit is clearly well manufactured and built to last. Though the Avanti Flow comes with adaptors for most of the more recent iPods there’s no iPhone adaptor, which seems a bit strange. You can still attach one to the docking connector it just won’t sit as neatly on the top.'

Acer K10 DLP Pico Projector Review - Register Hardware

Acer-K10.jpg

The Register Hardware have published a review of the Acer K10 DLP pico projector. 'Although the K10 is a DLP projector, the specification is quite unusual. For starters, there is the LED light source, which has a rated life of 20,000 hours. That ought to mean that you'll never need to replace the lamp. By contrast, an Acer PH530 projector has a rated lamp life of 2000 hours which means that the bulb will deteriorate after a couple of years of regular use and it costs £159 to replace. The downside of the LED light source is a brightness rating of a mere 100 lumens. We're used to projectors having a brightness of at least 1000 lumens, and 2000 or 3000 lumens are quite common.'

STMicroelectronics Increases Power Output of Portable Stereo Amplifiers Featuring 3D Audio Capabilities

Press Release

Delivering 2.8 Watts per channel TS4999 extends ST’s class D amplifier family for portable applications

Geneva, STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a world leader in analog ICs, has introduced the TS4999, a two-channel, 2.8W class D stereo audio amplifier IC featuring 3D audio effects that improves sound quality from portable equipment.

As end users demand progressively better audio experiences on the move, portable devices such as MP3 players, notebook computers, PDAs, and cellphones are being judged according to higher audio-quality metrics, such as stereo channel separation. Wide separation is acknowledged by audiophiles to deliver a better listening experience; home-audio equipment can easily achieve this separation by ensuring a large distance between speakers. To overcome the physical restrictions of portable form factors, the TS4999’s 3-dimensional audio creates the effect of wide channel separation. In addition, selectable 3D modes allow the audio image to be focused behind, above or below the listener, which can also improve performance and comfort for headphone users.

Using class-D operation to achieve up to 90% efficiency, the TS4999 benefits from reduced heat dissipation, which allows smaller portable products with high power density. Combined with the low minimum supply voltage of 2.4V the TS4999’s high efficiency also allows battery-powered products to operate for longer before recharging. A 10nA power-saving mode also minimizes battery drain when the audio features are not being used.

The TS4999 meets high standards for output power and distortion, by delivering up to 2.8 Watts per channel into 4-Ohm speaker loads and achieving distortion of 1%. Its high power-supply rejection ratio also prevents power-supply noise from entering the audio signal.

Delivered in an 18-bump flip-chip lead-free package, the TS4999 is in full production and is available at $1.10 in quantities of 1000 pieces.

SageTV HD Theater Review - PC Mag

SageTV-HD-Theater.jpg

PC Magazine have published a review of the SageTV HD Theater media extender. 'The tiny, black-metal HD Theater measures just 1.5 by 6.7 by 5.7 (HWD) inches. Unlike last year's HD Media Extender, this one has no media controls on the front. Instead, there are only power and status lights, along with a USB port. This is fine with me, since the unit comes with the same large, full-featured remote as the previous model. The back panel features inputs for HDMI, component, S-Video, and composite video, along with a second USB port, an S/PDIF digital audio port, and an Ethernet port. In addition to the remote, the unit comes with HDMI, composite, and S-video cables in the box, as well as an Ethernet cable and the power adapter. There are no five-way component video cables in the box, but I'd prefer the HDMI cable in any case.'

Review: Polk Audio SurroundBar 360 DVD Theater - CNET

Polk-Audio-SurroundBar-360-DVD-Theater.jpg

CNET have published a review of the Polk Audio SurroundBar 360 DVD Theater system. 'The SurroundBar 360 aims for simplicity in design and setup, and--thanks to a straightforward two-piece design--largely achieves that. The speakerbar portion is 4.5 inches tall by 64 inches wide by 5 inches deep. Externally, it looks similar to the original Polk Audio SurroundBar we reviewed in 2005. Like that model--and subsequent Polk SurroundBars--the 360 version uses Polk's proprietary "SDA Surround" technology (Stereo Dimensional Array). Remove the grille, and you'll notice the eight separate 2.5-inch speaker drivers are evenly grouped at both ends, with nothing in the middle.'

Choiix C-MB03 Notebook Sleeve - Notebook Review

C-MB03-Notebook-Sleeve.jpg

A review of the Choiix C-MB03 Notebook Sleeve has been posted over at NotebookReview.com. 'The design and construction of this sleeve is rather unique. It includes a strong, partial metal body which doubles as a notebook stand while using it on a soft surface or a lap on the go. Though the cooling efficiency of this table is not ideal it's certainly better than a fried lap any day. The metal is brushed horizontally and has a clean look to it. Overall the design on the sleeve is rather minimalistic like most sleeves yet boasts a modern feeling like a stainless steel fridge or Chevy Volt. The fabric chosen for the exterior has a viewable stitch with a slight shine.'

TRENDnet TV-M7 Wireless IP Monitor Review - Digital Trends

TRENDnet-TV-M7-Wireless-IP-Monitor.jpg

Digital Trends have published a review of TRENDnet's TV-M7 7' Wireless Internet Camera and Photo Monitor. 'Although the LCD measures only 7 inches diagonally (with a 16:9 aspect ratio), it’s surrounded by a bezel that’s more than 1.5 inches wide. Trendnet includes a couple of cardboard borders, but these printed designs are only slightly less ugly than the eggshell-colored enclosure itself. (Oh well, at least they didn’t use faux wood.) The display comes with an adjustable foot, but can also be hung on the wall. It has built-in speakers and a line-out jack for connecting headphones or higher-quality powered speakers.'

Nintendo DSi Review - Pocket-Lint

Nintendo-DSi.jpg

Pocket-Lint have published a review of the Nintendo DSi games console. 'The new console called the Nintendo DSi looks very similar to the previous version in design, but is slightly thinner and lighter (although it’s only a matter of grams). Gone is the gloss finish for a more adult matt surface. Comments from those we've shown like the more grown-up look, however we've already noticed that it attracts dirt more quickly than our glossy white DS Lite. The big difference you'll notice on the outside is the addition of a 3-megapixel camera on the lid and a SD card slot so you can save images or store music on the games console.'

Review: Toshiba SD-P71S Portable DVD Player - Trusted Reviews

Toshiba-SD-P71S.jpg

Trusted Reviews have published a review of the Toshiba SD-P71S portable DVD player. 'The SD-P71S lacks the USB port found on the SD-P91S, which leaves CD and DVD as the only way of playing back multimedia files, but the rest of the sockets are exactly the same. There are two headphone ports, AV input and output minijack sockets (for which you'll need the supplied adapter cable) and a 3.5mm coaxial digital audio output, which feeds Dolby Digital and DTS bitstreams to surround sound receivers. The unit supports DivX movies (version 6), MP3 audio and JPEG photos from recordable CDs and DVDs, plus it'll spin DVD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+RW and DVD+R discs created on DVD recorders. When fully charged the battery lasts for three hours, which isn't as good as the five hours offered by the SD-P91S but should still allow you to squeeze in a film or two.'

Roku Digital Video Player Review - PC World

Roku-Digital-Video-Player.jpg

PC World have published a review of the Roku Digital Video Player. 'The Roku Digital Video Player, Roku's newly updated version of last year's Netflix Player, is a welcome arrival. Whereas its predecessor could stream video only from Netflix, the new model can stream video from Amazon Video on Demand, as well. Don't be surprised if the $100 Roku Digital Video Player looks familiar. The hardware it uses is identical to the hardware on the older Netflix Player. Last year, Roku set a goal of expanding its streaming video functionality to include other services; the renamed Digital Video Player achieves that goal.'

Kubota L45 TLB Features HST Plus Transmission and the Versatility of Three Machines in One

TORRANCE, Calif. - Kubota introduces the new L45 tractor-loader-backhoe (TLB), a tractor built for power and versatility. The L45 operates like three machines in one, combining a strong loader and backhoe with three-point implement capabilities. Powered by a 45-horsepower Kubota diesel engine and new HST Plus Transmission, Kubota’s L45 is ideal for rental users, contractors, landscapers and homeowners with professional results in mind.

“The new Kubota L45 is designed to meet and exceed the needs of a professional, while helping the novice operate like one,” says Keith Rohrbacker, Kubota product manager. “Whether the task calls for a tractor with three-point implements, excavating utility trenches or loading materials, the L45 provides the power and versatility to get the job done.”

HST Plus Transmission for a Smoother Ride
Equipped with hydro dual speed, load-sensing ability and auto throttle, the L45’s HST Plus Transmission provides automated control of the HST pump and motor. More Powerful Loader and Backhoe
Both the L45 loader and backhoe feature innovative new design and enhanced capabilities. The loader is designed with a slanted boom and braceless frame, and has a lifting capacity of 2,200 pounds with a nine-foot, six-inch lifting height. The sloping hood allows the operator to visually check the surrounding area when working with the front loader, even with the bucket lowered. In addition to improved visibility, hydraulic auto-leveling technology makes the L45 loader just as productive as it is powerful. The L45 backhoe boasts a 10-foot digging depth, a high-performance inching valve and a standard hydraulic thumb bracket. The L45 features standard backhoe crawling mode, providing the ability to move at “creep” speed, ultimately saving time when repositioning while trenching.

Job Site Versatility
Whether hauling, tilling or cleaning with a box scraper, the L45’s rear axle and independent PTO powers a wide selection of tools, allowing the L45 to provide immense versatility. From a multi-functional quick coupler to detachable backhoe and rear remote hydraulic control valves, attachments can be easily mounted and exchanged on the loader, backhoe, and optional 3-point hitch of the L45.

Grace GDI-IR2000 Wi-Fi Radio Review - CNET

Grace-GDI-IR2000.jpg

A review of the Grace GDI-IR2000 Wi-Fi radio has been posted over at CNET. 'The look of the GDI-IR2000 is nearly identical to that of its predecessor. From the front, the left side is dominated by a 5-inch, five-watt speaker behind a black grille. Toward the center are nine buttons used to load presets, navigate menus, and control playback with digital music. The small knob underneath controls volume and the larger knob is used to navigate menus; you push the menu knob to make selections. The faceplate is all black, with thin silver trimming around the outside. Last year's model had an external Wi-Fi antenna in the back, while the GDI-IR2000's antenna in contained inside the unit. In all, we think it's a stylish look.'

Kubota Introduces KX080-3 Super Double Boom Utility Class Excavator

Press Release

Kubota First to U.S. Market with Revolutionary Double Boom Feature; Setting a New Standard for Worksite Performance and Versatility

TORRANCE, Calif. - Kubota has again revolutionized America’s construction equipment landscape by introducing the KX080-3 Super Double Boom eight-ton utility class excavator. The double boom – the first U.S. excavator with this innovative technology – adds length and functionality to the machine while allowing operators to reach further, dig deeper and level wider ranges. Kubota’s KX080-3 Super Double Boom is ideal for contractors and landscapers looking for a versatile excavator that delivers industrial performance like nothing else on the market today.

“The Super Double Boom on our KX080-3 is the latest development in the utility class excavator market,” says Keith Rohrbacker, Kubota product manager. “The expandable boom feature lets professional operators continue working while repositioning the machine less, resulting in a more productive work site. In fact, the KX080-3 Super Double Boom provides a wider working range than many larger excavators.”

Wider Working Range
Whether the job calls for leveling, dumping, or digging, the Kubota KX080-3 Super Double Boom delivers greater performance than a standard boom. The Super Double Boom is designed to bring the bucket more than three feet closer to the machine, making it easy to hold soil in front of the blade when leveling, while eliminating the small piles of rocks and rubble often left by a standard boom. Other features include an impressive dumping height of just over 20 feet and a digging depth of slightly more than15 feet. The wide leveling range with a wide tilt bucket also allows operators to easily level and finish on uneven surfaces.

Ease of Operation
The Super Double Boom is designed to operate with the simple step of a pedal. Stepping on the left side of the pedal retracts the boom, and stepping on the right side of the pedal extends it. A breakout force of 14,660 pounds ensures high productivity in the toughest of applications and a tight tail swing allows maneuvering in narrow job spaces. The KX080-3 is equipped with a three-pump load sensing system to ensure consistent performance during movement and simultaneous undertaking of applications.

Trusted Kubota Power in a Utility Class Machine
Like the standard KX080-3, the Super Double Boom is equipped with a four-cylinder 70-horsepower Kubota diesel engine and an auto idling system that contributes to significant reduction in noise and fuel consumption. Standard features include: dual auxiliary hydraulic ports, an anti-theft system for added security, deluxe suspension seat with retractable seatbelt, air conditioned cab and travel motors that automatically downshift.

Kubota Tractor Corporation, Torrance, Calif., is the U.S. marketer and distributor of Kubota-branded equipment, including a complete line of tractors up to 118 PTO hp, performance-matched implements, compact and utility-class construction equipment, consumer lawn and garden equipment, commercial turf products and utility vehicles. website: www.kubota.com

Press Release

U17 Offers Outstanding Power, Lifting Capacity, and Expandable Tracks for Big Jobs in Small Places

TORRANCE, - Kubota introduces the U17 zero-tail swing compact excavator, delivering maneuverability, power and performance even in the most confined work spaces. The U17 provides increased hydraulic flow for fast, responsive operation and heightened traction force for tough backfilling jobs, as well as rubber tracks for a smoother ride and lower ground pressure. On the U17, productivity is maximized with a bucket close to the blade while operator costs are reduced with features like a digital control panel. With a strong 17-horsepower engine, the Kubota U17 is small in stature but packed with power and performance.

“Whether digging pools, lead-ins, or underground utilities, the U17 is the perfect fit for big jobs in small places,” says Keith Rohrbacker, Kubota product manager. “This machine was designed with features and performance-upgrades that will appeal to operator productivity and comfort.”

The Strength of a Big Machine in a Compact Excavator
In addition to superior horsepower and performance, the Kubota U17 delivers low noise and vibration levels, exceptional fuel efficiency and compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2008 Tier IV emissions regulations. The Kubota D902-E3 engine teams up with an 11.9-gallon-per-minute hydraulic pump capacity to boost versatility for a wide range of tasks. For additional efficiency, the dozer arms on the U17 are extended to optimize clearance between the dozer and bucket, making soil and rock collection close to the machine simple and efficient. The U17 has plenty of power for heavy loads and tough excavating jobs with a quick coupler and bucket breakout force of more than 3,000 lbs. And, with a compact 3-foot, 3-inch overall width, the U17 is small enough to fit through almost any gate – but with the machine’s hydraulic, expandable variable width tracks – the U17 offers balance, stability and functions “big enough” to get the job done.

Safe and Comfortable Operation with Easy Maintenance
From safety features to enhanced operator comfort, the Kubota U17 is equipped to be efficient and productive. The Roll-Over Protection Structure (ROPS) canopy ensures safety and security on the job. Dual- flange track rollers reduce de-tracking on slopes during operation, while the tie-down rings provide a convenient way to transport the U17 safely when it is not in use. The high-back suspension seat provides optimum comfort while the two-speed travel switch on the dozer lever allows for faster operation while freeing up space on the floor for a wider foot area and lessened operator fatigue. With protected, top-mounted, boom-cylinder, motor hoses and front hoses, repair costs are reduced and durability is improved. Operators can also trust the advanced technology of the U17’s digital control panel that provides alerts when maintenance is due.

Working Range and Optional Implements
The Kubota U17 has an 11-foot, seven-inch maximum digging height, and an eight-foot maximum dumping height to reach elevations needed for virtually any job. Combine that reach with a seven-foot, seven-inch maximum digging depth and the U17 is as versatile as it is powerful. To further worksite versatility, optional implements for the Kubota U17 include buckets, spark arrest muffler, travel alarm, hydraulic auger, canopy lights, quick coupler and hydraulic hammer.

Press Release

Super Max® 7000 systems offer steam, and hot and cold water options in one durable, mobile unit.

WOBURN, MA - February 27, 2009 - Daimer Industries, a leading manufacturer and distributor of commercial cleaning products, introduced the Super Max® 7000, a new power washer that features long-lasting steel heating coils, continuous-use capabilities, and tri-mode steam, hot water and cold water versatility.

"Super Max® 7000 power washers offer a variety of cleaning options in a single machine," said Matthew Baratta, Daimer spokesman. "These units are ideal for cleaning commercial kitchens, restrooms, vehicles and industrial equipment."

Power Washer Technology

Like many of Daimer's power washers, the Super Max® 7000 includes tri-mode technology that allows the systems to provide steam, hot water, and cold water depending on the cleaning situation.

The new machines include a unique feature that allows the operator to adjust the hot water and steam temperatures with a dial.

Super Max® 7000 power washers also boast long-lasting stainless steel heating coils. Often, lower priced units use more fragile aluminum coils, which can be prone to holes and eventual failure.

The Super Max® 7000

Super Max® 7000 power washers offer a flow rate of 2.5 gallons/minute, up to 1000 psi of pressure, hot water temperatures of 180º F to 210º F, and steam temperatures as high as 330º F. The units use propane for heating.

These mobile machines are on wheels and include: a 25-foot, high-pressure steam hose; a three-foot trigger wand; four assorted nozzles; and a powder-coated steel, high gloss, chip/chemical resistant case. The models come in 50 or 60 Hz and voltages from 110/120V for customers worldwide.

Review: OverBoard Adventure Trolley Backpack - Pocket-Lint

OverBoard-Adventure-Trolley-Backpack.jpg

Pocket-Lint have published a review of the OverBoard Adventure Trolley Backpack. 'Measuring 50 x 33 x 24cm it falls into the dimensions required for hand luggage if you are a frequent flyer and features a 55cm telescopic handle, so rolling it on the two bottom-mounted wheels should present no problems. These wheels are well attached and the solid plastic base extends to surround the wheels, so should survive kerbs and car boots with no problems. The main compartment contains a sleeve that will hold a laptop – OverBoard say up to 16-inches and our 15.4-inch test PC fitted with no problems. There are also two dividers that would keep documents under control whilst the rest of the compartment should be big enough to accommodate a change of shirt and underwear for an overnight trip.'

LG BD370 Blu-ray Player Review - Trusted Reviews

LG-BD370-Blu-ray-Player.jpg

Trusted Reviews have published a review of the LG BD370 Blu-ray player. The most exciting new feature found on the BD370 is video-on-demand courtesy of YouTube. Using the deck's built-in Internet connection, you can access the site's videos and watch them on your TV as opposed to a poky PC monitor. It's the first time we've seen Blu-ray's Internet functionality being used for something other than movie-related extras or firmware updates, and on that basis it's a pretty significant step. However, unlike the US version of the BD370, you can't access films on demand, mostly due to the lack of online download sites like CinemaNow and Netflix in this country.'

Review: Verizon Wireless Network Extender - CNET

Verizon-Wireless-Network-Extender.jpg

CNET have published a review of the Verizon Wireless Network Extender cellphone accessory. 'Just like the Airave, the Verizon Wireless Network Extender is made by Samsung, which might explain the similar design. It looks like a regular wireless router, and on the front are four LED indicators for Power, System, GPS, and WAN status. On the back are an Ethernet jack, a charger jack, the power switch, and an antenna that can rotate up to 180 degrees. Also on the back, toward the top, is a built-in GPS antenna. The GPS is required to maintain network-timing updates plus to provide E911 services. If you can't get a GPS signal where you are, you can pop out the antenna, attach a cable to it, and position the antenna in an area of your home with the best GPS signal. In general, you should try to set up your Network Extender next to a window for the best possible signal.'
