Ishida Launches Automatic Weighing Solution for Fresh Meat

Screw-Feed-Multihead-Weighers.jpg

Press Release

Ishida Europe has extended its range of solutions for the weighing and packing of fresh, sticky products with the introduction of a new range of ‘Screw Feed’ multihead weighers, which allows the fully automatic handling of these types of products for the first time.

The new models are particularly ideal for meat, poultry, fish and seafood, which cannot be moved by feeder vibration, or where manual product feeding is not economically viable.

Because of the very sticky nature of these products, most current weighing systems are either manual or based on a linear design that relies on operators to direct and control the supply and flow of product. The Ishida Screw Feed design, by comparison, utilises the familiar circular multihead weigher layout but incorporates unique rotating corkscrews to replace the traditionally used radial feed troughs. The use of these screws provides a powerful, controlled and fully automatic product feed to the pool and weigh hoppers.

Ishida has developed two screw feeder models. The first features 3 litre, stepper motor driven anti-stick metal hoppers and is particularly suitable for larger target weights and larger piece size applications, including on-the-bone products. It has a top speed of 80wpm.

The second version incorporates 1.5 litre pneumatic driven plastic scraper hoppers with a maximum speed of 60 wpm.

Both models incorporate the unique calculation processing software of the Ishida R-Series. Ishida says they will easily double packing speeds for the stickiest products, while significantly reducing giveaway thanks to their outstanding accuracy

As a result, weighing speeds and accuracy show an improvement of approximately 20% compared with the best linear weighing systems, says the company.

A user-friendly Remote Control Unit (RCU) allows ease of set up and changeovers to minimise downtime, and provides detailed production information.

“The new Screw Feed weigher range is another innovative approach to fresh food weighing,” explains Paul Griffin, Ishida Europe’s Marketing Director.

“In particular, the machines are ideal for the dedicated weighing of two or three products. It means we now offer the widest variety of weighing solutions for fresh products, enabling us to tailor our equipment to meet individual customer requirements.” Website: www.ishidaeurope.com

Review: Eye Clops Night Vision Goggles - Ars Technica

Eye-Clops-Night-Vision-Goggles.jpg

Ars Technica have publsihed a "Hands on" review of the affordable Eye Clops Night Vision goggles. 'The goggles are technically a toy and aimed for children, but I found it easy to adjust the straps to fit my larger noggin. The battery pack sits behind your head, and the goggles take five AA batteries to operate. Since I received my unit in the middle of the day, I went to the only place that's pitch black in a suburban home: the bathroom. Putting in the batteries, sliding the goggles over my eyes, and then turning them on, I was excited to finally see what sub-$100 night vision looked like. I turned the power switch to "on" ... '

Elgato EyeTV DTT Deluxe Review - Register Hardware

Elgato-EyeTV-DTT-Deluxe.jpg

The Register Hardware have published a review of the Elgato EyeTV DTT Deluxe miniature TV tuner. 'TV-on-Mac specialist Elgato's latest offering has two features it hopes will win over buyers: the MacBook Air-friendly size and its inclusion of the most recent digital video recorder software. We think there's a third reason to buy: a superior aerial design. The Deluxe is tiny - smaller than any other USB TV tuner we've seen and quite a few USB Flash drives for that matter. Elgato's pitching the gadget at MacBook Air owners, who'll appreciate the fact that it fits into the skinny laptop's single USB port with room to spare.'

Slingbox Pro-HD Review - PC World

Slingbox-Pro-HD.jpg

A review of the Sling Media Slingbox Pro-HD video player has been posted over at PC World. 'With the Slingbox Pro-HD, Sling Media has created a version of its pioneering "place-shifting" device that lets you view high-definition video in high definition, remotely. Like previous Slingbox devices, such as the Slingbox Solo and the Slingbox Pro, it works by streaming video from a cable TV box, digital video recorder, or other home video source through the Slingbox unit, and then displaying the video footage on your network- or Internet-connected Windows laptop. (Software for playing high-def content is not yet available for Macs or for mobile devices that support standard-definition streams).'

Samsung CLP-315W Review - CNET

Samsung-CLP-315W.jpg

CNET have published a review of the Samsung CLP-315W wireless laser printer. 'The top of the Samsung printer is just as simple as the chassis, with a single power button and several LED lights to indicate a wireless connection and notify you about paper jams and toner shortages. The control panel annoyingly lacks a dedicated cancel button, so if you want to stop a job in mid-queue, you have to do it manually through the operating system. The top of the unit also has a foldout arm to catch paper on its way out of the feeder. A removable paper tray lives on the bottom of the CLP-315W and can hold the standard 150 sheets of paper in a variety of sizes up to 8.5 inches by 14 inches. Unfortunately, there's no manual feed slot that you commonly see in single function laser printers, but you can use the main input tray for different kinds of irregular media including envelopes, card stock, and transparency papers.'

Paradigm Launches BioDegradable Garbage Bags

Emerald-Oxo-Biodegradable-Garbage-Bags.jpg

Press Release

100% BIODEGRADABLE Plastic Garbage Bags produced from commodity PE resins and incorporating EPI’s TDPA® (Totally Degradable Plastic Additives).

Syosset, NY - Emerald™ Brand is pleased to introduce a new green line to its Green Collection; The Oxo Biodegradable Garbage Bags.

“In today’s “disposable” society, thousands of tons of garbage are disposed of in landfill sites daily. A vast amount of today’s plastic waste ends its life-cycle in a modern sanity landfill where it stays for decades, leaving our children with an ever increasing mountain of plastic waste. Even worse, plastic disposed as litter represents an eyesore and may cause sanitation and health problems in the environment.” states Ralph Bianculli, CEO of Paradigm Group. “Paradigm Group recognizes the need to deliver responsible disposables, and has invested in research and development in this product category.” continues Mr. Bianculli.

The Emerald™ Brand Eco Bags are degradable plastic garbage bags, and when disposed of in landfill sites or when inadvertently littered, will degrade and ultimately biodegrade into carbon dioxide, water and biomass. These unique garbage bags help reduce the build up of dangerous methane gas in landfill sites and save valuable landfill space.

“Today’s consumers want a responsible and sustainable approach to protect our environment when using low-cost, convenient, and disposable products. These bags are just as strong as ever. They are not affected by moisture and can be used again and again until the breakdown process” says Tony Galizia, Senior Vice President of Paradigm Group.

Review: Sharp Aquos LC-46X8E 46in LCD TV - Trusted Reviews

Sharp-Aquos-LC-46X8E.jpg

Trusted Reviews have published a review of the Sharp Aquos LC-46X8E 46in LCD TV. 'It’s a very attractive TV, that’s for sure. On one level it follows Sharp’s current penchant for a pretty slim, gloss black bezel offset by a silvery ‘wave’ along the bottom edge. Look a little closer, though, and the key points that make the 46X8E different from the B20 models slowly emerge. The desktop stand it ships with, for instance, is smaller than Sharp’s usual models, and the TV’s speaker inserts look a bit smarter. Probably because, as it turns out, they’re made of titanium. Ooh, fancy.'

Olympus LS-10 Portable Digital Recorder Review - Pocket-Lint

Olympus-LS-10.jpg

A review of the Olympus LS-10 portable digital recorder has been psoted over at Pocket-Lint. 'Taking the LS-10 out of the box and the first impression is that you have bought something that is going to take you a long time to understand. The pencil case sized device doesn't take the minimalist approach. It takes the "lets put yet another button in that bit of space" approach. On a device measures 131.5 x 48 x 22.4mm there are 17 buttons, 5 input sockets, two microphones, and a large LCD screen that gives you information such as recording length, the recording rate, levels of the recording and how much space you've got left in hours, minutes and seconds.'

LaCie USB Speakers Review - CNET

LaCie-USB-Speakers.jpg

CNET have published a review of the LaCie USB speakers. 'The output quality of the LaCie USB Speakers also leaves a lot to be desired. With only 1 watt of output from each channel and a limited frequency range (90Hz-20kHz), they can't reproduce music in the same aural ballpark as most digital music recordings intend. We used the speakers to play several different genres of music including modern recordings with digitally enhanced instruments and we were consistently disappointed with the results. Bass guitars and other instruments with a baritonal low end are distant and unenthusiastic and the treble sounds painfully shrill without a solid foundation. The sound quality is a small step above the stock speakers built into the average laptop.'

Belkin Desktop Internet Phone For Skype Review - Computeractive

Belkin-Desktop-Internet-Phone-For-Skype.jpg

Computeractive have published a review Belkin's Desktop Internet Phone for Skype which allows you to make unlimited free phone calls to other Skype users without a computer. 'You can scroll through your list of contacts using the buttons beneath the screen, or enter phone numbers using the numeric keypad. You can speak into the handset if you want, but we liked the phone’s ability to automatically switch into hands-free speakerphone mode should you simply dial a number without lifting up the handset. The only minor annoyance was that when dialling numbers on the keypad you first have to enter the UK dialling code (+44) to tell Skype that you’re dialling a UK number. If you’re using Skype on the computer you can set it to use the +44 code automatically, and it’s a shame that the Desktop Internet Phone doesn’t do this as well.'

Bradley Introduces First Adjustable Speed Hand Dryer

Aerix-Hand-Dryer.jpg

Press Release

MENOMONEE FALLS, WIS., (Sept. 8, 2008) â?? The new Aerix™ hand dryer from Bradley is the first and only adjustable speed hand dryer available in the U.S. that suits any application. Multiple speeds give facility managers the option of turning up for fast drying in settings such as sports centers, schools or themeparks, or turning down for quiet operations like museums or libraries.

Aerix series hand dryers are a "green" solution because they use 80 percent less electricity than other popular hand dryers. Whatâ??s more, hand dryers do not pose a pollution risk or contribute to deforestation like paper towels.

Whether a restroom has moderate or very high traffic, there is an Aerix warm-air hand dryer to fit the application. Depending on the model, the Aerix can dry hands in as little as 10 seconds â?? about three times faster than most hand dryers.

Several Aerix models conform to the ADA anti-protrusion requirement. The streamlined dryers are available in several cover options: cast iron, white enamel-coated steel or stainless steel with a satin finish. Hands-free operation or push-button operated models are offered.

Aerix hand dryers are easy to install, even during renovation because their mounting holes match those of most other common dryers. Universal voltage adjusts automatically, which saves on installation time. The vandal-resistant front cover of Aerix hand dryers opens with a special security wrench.

"As an innovation leader, we're constantly looking to improve the value of the Bradley line, says Jenny Smith, Associate Product Manager. â??These new dryers perfectly illustrate Bradleyâ??s commitment to designing and manufacturing high-quality washroom accessories."

For more than 85 years, Bradley Corporation has designed and manufactured commercial washfountains, and today is the industry's comprehensive source for plumbing fixtures, washroom accessories, restroom partitions, emergency fixtures and solid plastic lockers. $699 Digital Microscope Camera Captures High-Definition Images and Video

VanGuard-H2.jpg

Press Release

The VanGuard H2 digital microscope camera produces high-definition live images and video for the documentation and archival of clinical, life science, and industrial laboratory analysis.

Kirkland, WA (PRWEB) September 15, 2008 -- VEE GEE Scientific announces the VanGuard H2 digital microscope camera for the documentation and archival of clinical, life science, and industrial laboratory analysis. With a list price of just $699, the H2 digital microscope camera has a resolution of 1600 X 1200 (UXGA), adapts to most microscopes, and includes software compatible with Windows 2000, XP, and Vista.

The compact H2 digital microscope camera and included C-mount lens adapter install on essentially any microscope with an existing camera port or standard eyepiece tube. Once installed, the camera's ½" CMOS image sensor delivers images onto a computer monitor through a high-speed USB 2.0 cable and PC. Capable of operating at up to 40fps, the H2 digital microscope camera records live videos and captures still shots with the click of a button. The H2 is TWAIN compatible and doesn't require a separate power supply.

Rick Gaffney, owner of Son Set Consultants and a certified welding inspector and educator, uses a VanGuard Microscope with digital camera to examine fasteners and steel grain microstructures during metallographic tests. "I can easily view test samples through the microscope eyepieces or on my computer monitor, which speeds up the inspection process and allows me to email images inserted into our test records to my clients," says Gaffney. While teaching weld inspection classes, Gaffney also incorporates the H2 digital microscope camera and metallurgical microscope with an overhead projector for live demonstrations.

Included with the H2 digital camera, the imaging software has a simple yet powerful graphic interface that gives users control of the camera's advanced settings. Automatic and manual modes adjust image exposure and white balance. Full capture solutions are included to provide the user with the ultimate in live image analysis and archival.

In addition to the 2 megapixel H2 camera available now, VEE GEE will offer higher resolution cameras in the coming months. LUXIM Launches LIFI(TM)-ENT-30-02 Light Source for High-Performance Entertainment Lighting

LUXIMLIFI-ENT-30-02-LIGHT-SOURCE.jpg

Press Release

New 17,000 lumen light source enables energy efficient, reliable and quieter entertainment lighting equipment for rock concerts and other large entertainment venues

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - LUXIM Corp. has launched LIFI™ ENT‐30‐02, its latest solid state high intensity light source targeted at entertainment lighting applications. The new module outputs up to 17,000 lumens from a small emitter in a forward intensity pattern with a color rendering index (CRI) of 94 and a 10,000 hour lifetime.

LIFI™ Entertainment light sources reduce the power consumed by moving heads, follow spots and other stage and studio lighting equipment by as much as 50 percent compared with those that use conventional HID lamps. In concert venues where 100 or more fixtures are used, the reduction in power consumption can exceed 20 kilowatts. Dimming the source provides additional system efficiency boost.

The new product lasts up to 10 times as long as HID light sources. This carries significant advantages for entertainment applications. For instance, stage crews must replace light bulbs used in conventional equipment after only a few hundred hours of use, which means costly lamp replacement as frequently as every month, in locations that are usually elevated and hard to reach. LIFI light sources last the lifetime of the equipment itself and operate reliably for several years. The ruggedness and stability of the source eliminate the breakage and light loss that affect conventional lamps.

Finally, the LIFI product is substantially quieter than traditional HID sources. This is due to lower heat dissipation from the highefficiency LIFI source, which reduces the number of noisy fans that are routinely deployed to cool conventional lighting. When combined, the reduced sound interference and enhanced lighting contribute to a much higher‐quality experience for demanding audiences.

This is the second product LUXIM has brought to the marketplace for Entertainment lighting and represents development of a 50% increase in product light output capability in less than a year. Designers of entertainment lighting and other general lighting applications have a comprehensive array of LIFI light source options to meet their design needs.

Samples of the LIFI‐ENT‐30‐02 light source are available now and product data and application references may be found at LUXIM’s website www.LUXIM.com. Product demonstrations may also be viewed at the PLASA entertainment technology event held in London, UK during 7‐10 September 2008. Please contact LUXIM for more information about LIFI lighting products at info@LUXIM.com or tel: +1‐408‐734‐1096.

About LUXIM Corporation
LUXIM is a pioneer and volume manufacturer of energy‐efficient lighting solutions that offer reliable and extraordinarily compact technology for high‐intensity applications. LUXIM’s innovative LIFI™ technology blends advanced solid state electronics with fullspectrum plasma emitter technology in a tiny bulb to deliver unmatched color quality and other performance benefits. With twice the efficiency and five times the lifespan of conventional high‐intensity light sources, LUXIM’s LIFI™ enables diverse applications with “cleaner” and more cost‐effective advantages. Headquartered in Sunnyvale, Calif. and backed by leading venture capital firms, the company maintains sales, support and manufacturing centers in the U.S., Europe and Asia. ViewSonic VA2626wm Review - CNET

ViewSonic-VA2626wm.jpg

CNET have published a review of the ViewSonic VA2626wm widescreen LCD monitor. 'The ViewSonic VA2626wm's screen is enclosed in a thin 0.8-inch bezel with a smooth black finish. The footstand is about 10 inches in diameter, which is an appropriate width for a screen of this size. The ViewSonic, however, is about 5 pounds lighter than the Samsung SyncMaster 2693HM, and although it has an appropriate-size footstand, thanks to its lighter weight, it was more prone to wobble when we knocked it around. On the back, the chassis has many long vertical grooves with a large raised ViewSonic logo at the top. Although the neck of the stand is made of plastic on the ViewSonic, it does not feel as flimsy as the neck on the Samsung.'

ZAP Debuts New Recharge-It-All for Powering iPhone, BlackBerry, Palm and Other Mobile Electronics

ZAP-Recharge-It-All.jpg

Press Release

SANTA ROSA, CA - Alternative energy pioneer ZAP (OTC BB:ZAAP.OB) unveiled its new Recharge-It-All mobile power storage unit, the R03 Micro Lithium Backup Charger, so you can have power anywhere you go for a cell phone, iPod, iPhone or other low-powered electronic device.

ZAP is debuting a new pocket lithium battery charger that works with the iPhone, BlackBerry, Palm and other low-powered electronic devices. The R03 Recharge-It-All is compatible with 80 percent of the mobile phone market and is the only one that can power a variety of phones.

The R03 charger is small enough to fit easily into a pocket or purse. It works with most popular cell and smart phone models including iPhone, Motorola, Samsung, Nokia and LG. With four different connectors included, the R03 is compatible with 80 percent of the mobile phone market. It will also power USB charged devices like the iPod, BlackBerry and Palm Pilot.

"Recharge-It-All is a must for business travelers, especially if you want to avoid the 'Black Screen of Death,'" said ZAP CEO Steve Schneider. "Anyone who uses an iPhone, BlackBerry or similar device knows what I am talking about because if you run out of power it could literally mean you are out of business. I've used Recharge-It-All on business trips and never have to worry about running out of power."

Recharge-It-All is the only platform that does recharge it all, because unlike power systems that are designed for a specific model of mobile phone, the R03 can recharge or power a variety of mobile phones, not a specific type. More than just a battery, Recharge-It-All combines advanced battery storage with smart charge controller technology that can sense and adapt to a range of different voltages required by your favorite electronic devices. It includes a range of connectors that let you plug into virtually any electronic device. Once charged it becomes a remote power source that goes wherever you go.

On your next business trip or vacation, leave your other charge adapters behind and take a Recharge-It-All battery. The R03 Lithium Pocket Charger features 1050 MHA lithium with USB output of 5 volts. The charger retails for $19.99, a selling price point that is perfect for mass-market retailers.

ZAP invested in the creation of the Portable Energy line in 2005 to explore synergies between the consumer electronics and electric car markets. The company is currently testing similar batteries that allow its electric cars to travel more than four times farther than conventional lead acid batteries.

About ZAP

Sony Reader PRS-505 Review - Pocket-Lint

Sony-Reader-PRS-505.jpg

Pocket-Lint have published a review or the Sony Reader PRS-505 portable book reader. 'The Sony Reader, or PRS-505, presents a 6-inch E Ink display, lovingly set in a metal body, the front of which is somewhat cluttered with buttons. The grey lining to the sophisticated leather cover, paired with the silver-grey metal body of the Reader itself results in a combination that is sensitive to the needs of a reader - it doesn't distract your eyes from the text. E Ink displays avoid backlighting of any sort, so this is nothing like reading on an LCD display: it’s like reading grey paper.

Of course all these are important features, because at its very core, the Sony Reader has to be convincing as a replacement for a humble paperback if it is to succeed. Whilst you can read it in bright sunshine, the surface does give you some reflection, but thanks to the wide viewing angle you can simply tilt it slightly. A distinct advantage of E-Ink displays is low power consumption, so Sony estimate the battery life to be about 6800 page turns.'

Parrot DS3120 Review - Laptop Mag

Parrot-DS3120.jpg

A review of the Parrot DS3120 wireless digital MP3 radio system has been posted over at Laptop Magazine. 'At 11.7 inches wide, the DS3120 is about the same width as the ultra-slim Altec Lansing SoundBlade but packs a little more baggage in the back at 3.9 inches deep, compared with the SoundBlade’s svelte 1-inch profile. Still, the DS3120 will easily fit on a small table and is an unobtrusive desk companion. Centered on the top of the unit is a bright and clear 1.8-inch LCD. Below are nine buttons to make on-screen selections and control music playback and volume. The buttons are spaced far enough apart to use with ease but require a bit of force; we found ourselves holding onto the back of the unit to prevent it from tipping over when using the playback controls.'

Vita Audio R4 Review - Trusted Reviews

Vita-Audio-R4.jpg

Trusted Reviews have published a review of the Vita Audio R4 DAB/FM radio. 'Like most of these new all-in-one devices the R4 features an iPod dock, a CD player, (which, in addition to regular music CDs, plays MP3 and WMA discs), FM and DAB radio tuners, a 2.1 speaker setup, and of course an amp to power the whole lot. In fact, about the only thing that sets this apart from its competitors is the inclusion of a USB port on the front. This allows you to plug in a USB thumb drive and playback whatever mp3s you have thereon. It's quite a useful feature but we're not sure it's really necessary and we'd prefer to have the port on the back to reduce clutter on the front.'

Pure Digital Evoke Flow Radio Review - Register Hardware

Pure-Digital-Evoke-Flow.jpg

The Register Hardware have published a review of the Pure Digital Evoke Flow portable internet radio. 'The Evoke Flow combines DAB, FM and Wi-Fi-received internet streams and has the aim of delivering the best of what's available on all three platforms. Pure believes that just giving access to the thousands of internet stations that are out there isn't quite the point. So it's created a dedicated portal called the Lounge, bringing the listener many ways to tailor the internet radio to suite personal tastes. There's no need trawl through hundreds of options to find something worth listening to - the search power of the Lounge can be applied to sort, arrange and create a bespoke listening experience. The site isn't available to the public as yet, but Register Hardware was given special access to try the service out.'

AnalogicTech’s High Current WLED Flash Drivers Offer Smaller Alternative to Xenon Lamps

AnalogicTech-AAT1271-AAT1272-Converters.jpg

Press Release

Highly Flexible Converters Allow On-the-Fly Output Current Correction to Enhance Photo Quality

Santa Clara, CA – Advanced Analogic Technologies Incorporated (AnalogicTech) (Nasdaq: AATI), a developer of power management semiconductors for mobile consumer electronic devices, announced today the AAT1271and AAT1272 dual-channel boost converters are the first devices of their type in AnalogicTech’s WLED driver product line to feature the company’s proprietary AS2Cwire and industry-standard I2C interface respectively. The additional addressing capability of these two buses offers designers tremendous flexibility to modify drive current, and therefore WLED brightness. At the same time, the boost converters’ high drive current and small 3x3-mm footprint delivers a highly attractive alternative to bulky xenon lamp solutions.

“Many digital still cameras and phone cameras today maximize photo quality by compensating for ambient light deviations,” explains Phil Dewsbury, Product Line Director for Lighting Products at AnalogicTech. “By taking advantage of the additional control capabilities in the AS2Cwire and I2C bus, the AAT1271 and AAT1272 allow designers to modify flash brightness or movie mode brightness on-the-fly across multiple levels and thereby improve picture quality.”

Increased Current Control
Both the AAT1271 and AAT1272 are high efficiency, high current boost converters designed for LED photo flash applications. Operating off a 2.7V to 5.5V input voltage range, the two new devices are targeted at single-cell Lithium-ion battery powered mobile systems. Both converters use a high 2 MHz switching frequency which helps reduce system footprint by allowing the use of smaller external inductors and capacitors. The two new converters can achieve up to 85% efficiency with 1µH inductors.

The AAT1271 and AAT1272 feature two channels capable of driving two high current WLEDs at up to 750mA each. Alternately, the two channels can be combined to drive a single WLED at up to 1.5A. The AAT1271 features AnalogicTech’s proprietary single-wire AS2C interface, while the AAT1272 offers the industry-standard two-wire I2C interface.

Both converters supply separate flash enable and movie-mode enable inputs to control flash and movie-mode operation. Designers use a single, external resistor to set full-scale flash LED current. A default 7.3:1 flash-to-movie-mode current ratio is provided. Designers can adjust the movie-mode current level from the default setting to any of 15 other levels using either the AS2Cwire or I2C interface. The AAT1271 also adds a flash inhibit input that can be used in GSM mobile applications to reduce the flash current during PA transmission to avoid a system reset due to excessive battery droop in high battery current conditions.

Given their high drive current capability, both converters also feature input current limit capability and a true load disconnect switch that reduces supply current in shutdown to < 1µA.

The new converters also include a user-programmable flash safety timer. This function can be used to protect the flash LEDs from thermal damage in the event of a software failure by terminating the flash pulse regardless of the FL enable signal condition. Using the AS2C or I2C bus, the safety timer can be programmed across 16 different levels.

Price and Availability
Both devices are qualified across the -40º C to +85º C temperature range and come in a 3x3-mm 14-pin TDFN package. The AAT1271 and the AAT1272 sell for $1.49 in 1K quantities.

JVC LT-32DE9BJ 32in LCD TV / PVR Review - Trusted Reviews

JVC-LT-32DE9BJ-32in-LCD-TV-PVR.jpg

Trusted Reviews have published a review of the JVC LT-32DE9BJ 32in LCD TV. 'Probably the most significant strength of the TV’s pictures is their sharpness and detail. The DynaPix system really does a great job of making standard definition sources look crisp and surprisingly noiseless, while HD sources are stunningly full of texture and fine detail. In fact, during a run-through of test-room favourite Casino Royale on Blu-ray, detail levels during the early free running sequence are as high as I’ve ever seen them on a 32in TV.

I was also rather taken with the 32DE9BJ’s colours. As with many previous JVC TVs we’ve seen, they’re very aggressively saturated, helping the picture achieve a richness and solidity that’s rare in the 32in marketplace. As a result, sun-drenched, tropical sequences in Casino Royale such as the scene where Bond emerges from a swim to ogle a lady with a white horse have simply never looked better on a 32in TV. Honestly, the 32DE9BJ really can be that good.'

New Fluke Laser Distance Meters provide fast, accurate measurement in electrical, HVAC & industrial applications

Fluke-Laser-Distance-Meters.jpg

Press Release

Save steps, time and money with precise laser measurements

Everett, Wash. - Fluke Corporation has announced the new Fluke 416D and 411D Laser Distance Meters, designed to precisely and quickly measure distances up to 200 feet using advanced laser technology.

Faster and less cumbersome than traditional tapes or wheels, these pocket-sized, professional-grade tools help electricians, facilities managers and HVAC contractors save time and labor. Instead of walking back and forth across a space with tape or wheel, the user can simply place the meter at the starting point, point the laser at the target, press one button and instantly read the distance, all without the help of a second person to hold the other end of the tape measure.

Laser technology makes the Fluke 416D and 411D Laser Distance Meters far more accurate and dependable than devices using ultrasonic technology. The Fluke 411D measures up to 100 feet (30 meters) with accuracy of +/- 0.12 inches (+/- 3 mm); the Fluke 416D measures up to 200 feet (60 meters) with accuracy of +/- 0.06 inches (+/- 1.5 mm).

Both meters have a bright laser for easy targeting and large liquid crystal displays. Buttons are positioned for one-hand operation. The simple user interface allows you to easily add or subtract measurements and quickly calculate area and volume. An automatic shut-off feature improves battery life, providing up to 3000 readings (411D) or 5000 readings (416D) from a pair of AAA batteries. In addition to its increased rangeand accuracy, the Fluke 416D also offers a three-line, backlit display for improved visibility, memory for saving ten measurements, splash and dust protection (IP54) and an audible activation shut down notification.

Fluke Laser Distance Meters boost productivity and save money by helping speed the measurement process and eliminate costly estimation errors. They are built to withstand a four-foot drop, featuring the ruggedness and reliability that professionals have come to expect from Fluke.

Laser technology: far ahead for measuring distance

Laser distance meters emit light pulses with a defined wavelength and frequency. The laser beam is reflected off the target and back to the distance meter at the speed of light. The returning wavelengths and light pulses change in relationship to the ones sent out by the meter. The difference between the two signals is proportional to the distance to the target.

Unlike ultrasonic meters, the laser distance meter’s narrow laser beam prevents the reflection off objects that aren’t targeted, avoiding false readings. Laser meters are much more accurate and reliable, and measure much longer distances than ultrasonic meters.

The Fluke 411D is priced at $109.00 USD, while the Fluke 416D is priced at $229.00 USD. They are available from Fluke distributors now. Both meters come with an instruction book, carrying pouch to secure on a tool belt, two AAA batteries and a two year warranty.

Mobile Edge Dig Laptop Messenger Review - PC Mag

Mobile-Edge-Dig-Laptop-Messenger.jpg

A review of the Mobile Edge Dig Laptop Messenger notebook carrying case has been posted over at PC Mag. 'The Dig's main compartment is divided into two sections. The laptop bag's trademarked Superior SafetyCell computer protection compartment is designed to accommodate 15.4-inch laptops, though my 17-inch MacBook Pro was able to fit snugly. The cushion was thick enough to make my laptop feel really well protected. The second section can hold a paper notebook or a few magazines, but not much else. Underneath the flap, there's a front Velcro enclosed sleeve with a pocket for your wallet, cell phone, and various gadgets, plus another mesh zippered section for your pencils and pens.'
